On Tuesday night, FOX had another strong performance from its new hit - New Girl. At 8pm, Glee was down two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. It seems like it has stabilized for now but it wouldn't surprise me to see it continue to drop over the course of the season. At 9pm, New Girl - fresh off a full season order - was down six tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo, still pulling a strong 4.3. One of the best effects of New Girl is how it it affecting Raising Hope which was actually up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. This comedy pairing seems to be gold for FOX right now but it will be broken up for baseball and preemptions over the next couple weeks.

CBS continued to fly high in the total viewer department (and the demo for the first and last hour). At 8pm, NCIS was down just a tenth in viewers and even in the demo. Despite that, NCIS: Los Angeles was down 1.5 million viewers and two tenths in the demo. Maybe it's getting hurt by stronger competition on ABC and FOX in this hour. At 10pm, week three of the new Unforgettable was down eight tenths in viewers but even in the demo. This is a strong showing especially considering the lead-in was down. If this is where the show stabilizes, it will be a step up on Tuesday nights for CBS.

ABC started off with an abridged repeat of Dancing with the Stars which was down from last week's recap. The new Tim Allen sitcom Last Man Standing premieres in this slot next week. At 9pm, the results episode of Dancing with the Stars was up nine tenths in viewers and even in the demo. While the performance show keeps dropping, the results show has held steady in the demo three weeks in a row which is good news. At 10pm, Body of Proof was up eight tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo, showing promising growth after last week's dip. With a 2 demo, it managed to tie Parenthood for second in the demo with many more viewers.

Over on NBC, The Biggest Loser continued to evaporate viewers. It was down two tenths in viewers and the demo. After declining last season, it is sinking fast this fall and is not a reliable performer even by NBC standards. Even with NBC's many problems, it is time to reduce this show to an hour. It's tiring fast. At 10pm, Parenthood was down four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for season lows. This show will never reach a mass audience but a 2 demo in the 10pm hour is good enough for NBC right now.

EPISODE GUIDES: Rhoda Season Five

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Five (the final season) of  Rhoda ! RHODA: SEASON FIVE 1978 13 episodes Rhoda' s final season was a truncated one as the show was cancelled in December 1978 after only 13 episodes had been produced (and only nine had aired). This feels like a continuation from season four in many ways except with the ill-advised split between Ida and Martin (more on that below). While  Rhoda  has an occasional good moment and even a couple decent episodes, it is a show that seems so wildly different from season one and not in a good way.  Rhoda  could never figure out what it fully wanted to be and only made it four and a half seasons as a result. Starring Valerie Harper as Rhoda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Julie Kavner as Brenda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Ray Buktenica as Benny Goodwin  (11 episodes) Kenneth McMillan as Jack Doyle  (9 episodes) Nancy Wa...

Headlining their night was Murder One , a high profile new show from Steven Bochco that received much of the network's attention before the season started. The series focused on one murder case for an entire season, whi...

DECADE IN REVIEW: The Best Comedies of the 2010s

During the month of December, I will be looking back at the decade that was the 2010s on TV. I will be sharing my favorite sitcoms, dramas, the best episodes, the best performances and the worst shows of the decade. To be eligible for this list, a show had to air the majority of its episodes in the 2010s. However, for the rankings and determination, all episodes were taken into account, including ones that may have aired before 2010. I will also preface that there are comedies that have aired this decade that I haven't watched yet so this is the best of what I have watched. To be fair, that preface is more true for dramas. There's not a ton of unwatched comedies sitting in my Netflix or Amazon watchlist. So here are my Top 10 comedies of the 2010s! Close Calls:  Master of None (Netflix) - An inconsistent but occasionally fascinating commentary on many life issues done so with innovative storytelling. The Good Place (NBC) - A show that aims high with a fascinating premis...
