While this was basically assumed when it got moved to Saturdays yesterday, news has come out (first reported yesterday and confirmed today) that production has shut down on How to Be a Gentleman, making it the third cancellation of the season among the big four networks - joining NBC's The Playboy Club and Free Agents. Gentleman is the first show to get the ax after just two airings this season. It premiered to a decent 9 million viewers and 2.7 demo, but it was a huge dropoff from lead-in The Big Bang Theory. While the second episode sunk some, it would still be a hit by NBC standards. But again, the dropoff from Big Bang was steep. Not to mention the show has been critically panned. To me, it was reminiscent of a bad 1990s sitcom. In two airings, it averaged 8.3 million viewers and a 2.6 demo, easily the highest rated cancellation yet.
As already mentioned, Gentleman will burn off the rest of its run on Saturdays while Rules of Engagement will take over the Thursday 8:30pm slot it held last year with new episodes starting October 20.
