GOOD WEEK: "NEW GIRL"
FOX's new comedy is off to a hot start and earned the honor of being the first show picked up for a full season. It has easily built on its Glee lead-in two weeks in a row. Its second airing pulled 9.3 million viewers and a strong 4.5 demo. It has also seemed to be a more compatible lead-out for Raising Hope and given that show better demos so far than it was getting last season. FOX has struggled in its entire existence to find successful live action sitcoms with only a few (Married... with Children, Malcolm in the Middle, That 70s Show) only really breaking through.
BAD WEEK: THURSDAY NIGHT
Thursday night has been to go-to night for TV's top hits for decades. From Cheers and The Cosby Show to Friends, Seinfeld, and ER to CSI and Grey's Anatomy, some of TV's biggest hits of all time have been on Thursdays. There have been a lot of positives in the early part of the week this season but Thursdays have some issues across the board. ABC has their only swing and miss so far in Charlie's Angels and a declining Grey's Anatomy, CBS has an instant bomb in How to Be a Gentleman, a declining The Mentalist, and an underwhelming CSI replacement in Person of Interest. NBC has cult hits but very low-rated sitcoms and very disappointing numbers for Prime Suspect. FOX has been winning the night with The X-Factor but even that show is far below expectations. Outside of The Big Bang Theory, every show has been somewhat disappointing. Looks like Thursdays is there for the taking.
