CBS, NBC, and FOX have all given shows full season orders and now ABC has joined the club with two Wednesday success stories - Suburgatory and Revenge.
Suburgatory started a week late but got off to a great start, building from it's The Middle lead-in and then it has displayed an excellent hold as it only slipped two tenths in the demo in its second week and then held steady in its third week. After Hank was an instant bomb in 2009 and The Middle took over as the anchor, ABC has been looking for a good bridge to Modern Family. Last year's Better With You was not that bridge but it appears that Suburgatory just might be as it seems the perfect match with The Middle in terms of quality and ratings. Through three episodes, Suburgatory has averaged 9.3 million viewers and a 3.2 demo.
The first drama to be given a full season on the big four networks was Revenge. In a season that has been all about comedy, Revenge has been a dramatic success. The soapy drama has won its timeslot twice in a slot that has been trouble for ABC for decades. It's doing well just on its own standing but it's doing especially well when compared to recent bombs The Whole Truth, Happy Town, Off the Map, and Eastwick. ABC took a gamble here and it has paid off big time as many are addicted to the juicy storyline. But what will they do after the 13th episode when supposedly all the pilot's questions will be answered? Through four episodes, Revenge has averaged 8.5 million viewers and a 2.8 demo.
Some ABC shows are just premiering this week or next week, but no word yet on the other two ABC shows to premiere at the beginning of the season - the almost DOA Charlie's Angels and the quickly dropping Pan Am. But after a season with no new hits last year, these two are early success stories for ABC.
