CANCELLATION ALERT: Free Agents

The first two cancellations of the season have both come from the peacock network. After cancelling The Playboy Club on Monday, they yanked my pick for the first cancellation of the season - Free Agents - after four episodes.

Free Agents got a sneak peek after America's Got Talent alongside fellow freshman Up All Night. While Night had a great sampling, Agents bled a lot of its audience and only garnered 6.1 million viewers and a 2.1 demo. When the show moved to 8:30pm the following week, it sunk mightily and only got a 1.0 demo the past two weeks. This happened despite its lead-in showing remarkable stability in a difficult timeslot. The Hank Azaria comedy always seemed to niche to survive and it wasn't really a good fit with Up All Night. I was underwhelmed with the pilot and have not watched since nor did I have an interest to.

With the cancellations and the full season orders for Whitney and Up All Night, it leaves Thursday drama Prime Suspect as the only new NBC show up in the air. It appears that NBC is trying to make that show work. Still to debut is Grimm and Rock Center with Brian Williams at the end of October as well as many midseason shows. Repeats of Whitney will fill the 8:30pm slot until November when repeats of Up All Night take over.
