On the third Monday of the season, FOX got some very positive news from freshman drama Terra Nova. While last week's debut was underwhelming, Monday's episode was down just half a million viewers and even in the demo. Every other new show has dropped, some significantly, in its second week but Nova managed to stay completely steady in the demo. And this is coming off a two hour premiere last week. This is a big showing for a show that many were ready to write off after the ho-hum debut. At 9pm, the season premiere of veteran House had a strong demo performance but was down nine tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo from last year's 8pm season premiere. This premiere though, is not a bad performance in a difficult timeslot.
But it was another Monday, another stellar night for CBS. At 8pm, How I Met Your Mother was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo. Is it settling in to the mid 4s? If so, that is a huge uptick from last year. At 8:30pm, week three of 2 Broke Girls was down just four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo showing a great hold for a new show. It looks like this show is here to stay in the Monday lineup. At 9pm, Two and a Half Men was down 2.8 million viewers and 1.2 in the demo. Considering that the show is probably just now losing some curious viewers, this is a great number. If it stays in this range, it will be nicely up from last season. So far, Chuck Lorre has won the war. At 9:30pm, Mike & Molly was down seven tenths in viewers and half a demo point, posting better retention out of Men than last week. Finally at 10pm, Hawaii Five-0 was down just two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. This show seems to have its own audience, regardless of how the comedies do as it has been very stable three weeks in a row.
Over on ABC, Dancing with the Stars was up four tenths in viewers but down two tenths in the demo to a 3.1. While that number is not bad, it's much lower than recent years and the demo has to be concerning for ABC. Of course they could chalk it up to a bad cast as more buzzworthy contestants would probably give the show a ratings boost. At 10pm, Castle was down half a million viewers and a very rough six tenths in the demo. Yikes! What happened to the demo? It was its lowest since February 14. It will be interesting to see if it crawls back up next week or if the show is starting to skew older.
NBC started things off with The Sing Off which was up ever so slightly - four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. The peacock network is grasping for anything at this point so there's a hint of promise with this performance but it still has a long way to go. At 10pm, the now-cancelled The Playboy Club was down half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo as the latest performance made it the first cancellation of the season. Not too surprising considering it was dead on arrival two weeks ago.
