The ax has swung at ABC for the first time this season and fourth time overall this season. The high profile reboot of Charlie's Angels has joined The Playboy Club, Free Agents, and How to Be a Gentleman in the cancellation trashpile.
Remakes always are hit or miss (usually miss) and this one was one of the worst reviewed shows of the fall. Despite lots of buzz in pilot and upfront season thanks to the well-known title, it got off to a lackluster 8.8 million viewers and 2.1 demo and sunk from there. The show was really escapist and the production value was good but the stories, acting, and especially the script weren't there. I am sad that I won't be able to watch Minka Kelly every week though. Through four episodes, Charlie's Angels averaged 6.9 million viewers and a low 1.5 demo.
There are four episodes of Charlie's Angels in the can and ABC has said they will air them. My prediction is we see it next week and then the remaining three episodes in December as ABC probably won't want to air the show in November sweeps. ABC has many dramas on deck for midseason. Will they try another show in the Thursday 8pm slot that has killed FlashForward, The Deep End, My Generation, and now Charlie's Angels? We shall see.
