ABC handed out renewals to more shows yesterday: Nashville, Dancing with the Stars, America's Funniest Home Videos, The Bachelor, and Shark Tank.
The one that was most in doubt was Nashville, but it did get renewed for a third season. The show had an underwhelming first season followed by a second season that nearly fell off the map but ABC still renewed it and not just for 13 episodes, for a full season. I'm surprised by this move as it seems like ABC is committed to getting this show to syndication levels, which is still two years away. Now seemed like a good time to cancel it, but it also does have other sources of value such as the music. Despite my reservations, it always seemed likely given how ABC continues to promote this show.
Foregone conclusions were renewals for ABC's veteran reality franchises: Dancing with the Stars (for a 19th edition - no 20th edition, yet), America's Funniest Home Videos (for a 25th (!) season), The Bachelor (for a 19th edition), and Shark Tank (for a 6th season). With these renewals, the only true bubble show remaining is Last Man Standing, which is reportedly part of a contract negotiations involving pilot comedies Cristela and Fresh Off the Boat.
