NBC added three more comedies to its growing list of pilot pickups as they added Bad Judge, Mission Control, and One Big Happy. The latter two were six episode midseason orders.
Bad Judge brings Kate Walsh back to TV. She plays a hard living woman who works as a judge in the criminal court system. On the surface, this seems like it's Bad Teacher in a courtroom, but who knows what it will actually look like. This was always in the NBC considerations but it never really spiked my interest.
Mission Control is set in 1962 in the space industry. Starring Krysten Ritter and Tommy Dewey, it was an interesting pilot all the way and a favorite of NBC brass though it may end up being a niche comedy on NBC. Still, I can't think of any comedy set in the 60s in a nostalgic way (there have been plenty of dramas), so this is interesting.
One Big Happy was the only multi-camera sitcom in development and will be the only one on the air for NBC next season. With Ellen DeGeneres as an executive producer, the show focuses on a gay woman and straight man who decide to have a baby together. It sounds a bit like a new spin on a show NBC already tried: The New Normal, but the multi-camera approach makes it a little bit interesting.
The only pilots left in consideration for NBC are Old Soul and the Untitled Jerrod Charmichael project with Old Soul having a better chance and the Jerrod Charmichael project possibly shooting a new pilot. Everything other pilot not picked up by NBC is reportedly dead.
