As ABC finally negotiated a deal that involved picking up new comedies

Fresh Off the Boat,
Last Man Standing was renewed for a fourth season.
Last Man Standing has spent the last two seasons on Friday nights and it does OK by Friday standards, especially for a sitcom. The problem for ABC is they haven't found a great companion for it but perhaps that will be one of their new sitcoms.
Last Man was almost always assured a renewal especially as it enters its important fourth season for syndication.
