NBC added to its pilot pickups on Thursday by picking up dramas The Mysteries of Laura and Constantine and comedy A to Z.
The Mysteries of Laura is a star vehicle for Debra Messing. She stars as a homicide detective and the series revolves her work and family life. This was the most traditional procedural among the NBC pilots and they must hope that Messing and the quality of the show exceed last year's generic procedural attempt (the reboot of Ironside).
Constantine follows a supernatural detective who protects people from dark forces. Starring Matt Ryan, the sci-fi/fantasy/procedural hybrid is definitely a gamble for NBC and it might be a candidate to join Grimm on Friday nights.
A to Z comes from Rashida Jones and centers on an online dating company. It has been described as "whimsical." Starring Cristin Milloti and Ben Feldman, the show might be a good fit for Tuesday nights if NBC keeps a comedy block there.
These three shows join Allegiance, Aquarius, Emerald City, Heroes: Reborn, Marry Me, Mr. Robinson, Odyssey, State of Affairs, The Slap, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. NBC could still pick up some more shows, especially on the comedy side, so stay tuned.
