UPFRONTS 2018: What ABC Will Do

Here is my ABC prediction!

Past ABC predictions: 2017   2016   2015   2014   2013   2012   2011

MONDAYS
8:00 Dancing with the Stars
10:00 The Good Doctor
I know there are a million things ABC could do with Monday including shifting The Good Doctor to an earlier hour and moving Dancing with the Stars to Sunday. But this is the network that kept Castle after Dancing for nearly a decade. I don't see them changing anything here.

TUESDAYS
8:00 Roseanne
8:30 MAN OF THE HOUSE
9:00 Black-ish
9:30 Splitting Up Together
10:00 THE ROOKIE
I believe Roseanne will not be held until midseason like it was this year and will be paired with a new show. Could be anything but I'm betting on a multi-camera show. I think the 9pm hour will stay put and The Rookie could be a 10pm option with some more clout thanks to star Nathan Fillion than recent 10pm entries.

WEDNESDAYS
8:00 The Goldbergs

8:30 UNTITLED TIM DOYLE PROJECT
9:00 Modern Family
9:30 American Housewife
10:00 FALSE PROFITS
I think Wednesdays will see new shows at 8:30pm and 10pm. The 70s family comedy seems like a great fit for this night. The Goldbergs spinoff is also a possibility for this slot, but I think they will hold that until midseason. ABC better not keep Designated Survivor at 10pm another year so I'm taking a guess they will go with the drama False Profits.

THURSDAYS
8:00 Grey's Anatomy
9:00 Station 19
10:00 How to Get Away with Murder
I think ABC will put the only Shonda shows left together (assuming no surprise renewal for For the People). With ABC likely moving away from the TGIT brand, I don't see them launching a new show here.

FRIDAYS
8:00 The Toy Box

9:00 Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
10:00 20/20
It seems likely Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will get renewed so I think Fridays will be another year of surrendering by ABC with a lineup like this.

SATURDAYS
8:00 College Football

SUNDAYS
7:00 America's Funniest Home Videos
8:00 Shark Tank
9:00 THE MISSION
10:00 Deception
ABC has to keep in mind that American Idol will be back here at midseason so I think low priority shows will be Sunday night: a reality staple, a less "big" new show, and a procedural that would get cancelled if not returned to its previous slot.

MIDSEASON: GRAND HOTEL, A MILLION LITTLE THINGS, SINGLE PARENTS, TAKE TWO, UNTITLED GOLDBERGS SPINOFF, WHISKEY CAVALIER, American Idol, The Bachelor, Child Support, Designated Survivor, Fresh Off the Boat, Speechless
Like this year, I think ABC may hold off on some big shows for midseason.

CANCELLED/ENDED: Alex Inc., The Crossing, For the People, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, Marvel's Inhumans, The Mayor, The Middle, Once Upon a Time, Quantico, Scandal, Ten Days in the Valley

EPISODE GUIDES: Rhoda Season Five

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Five (the final season) of  Rhoda ! RHODA: SEASON FIVE 1978 13 episodes Rhoda' s final season was a truncated one as the show was cancelled in December 1978 after only 13 episodes had been produced (and only nine had aired). This feels like a continuation from season four in many ways except with the ill-advised split between Ida and Martin (more on that below). While  Rhoda  has an occasional good moment and even a couple decent episodes, it is a show that seems so wildly different from season one and not in a good way.  Rhoda  could never figure out what it fully wanted to be and only made it four and a half seasons as a result. Starring Valerie Harper as Rhoda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Julie Kavner as Brenda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Ray Buktenica as Benny Goodwin  (11 episodes) Kenneth McMillan as Jack Doyle  (9 episodes) Nancy Wa...

SCHEDULES OF THE PAST: 1995-1996 Thursdays

On Tuesdays, I take a look at schedules from yesteryear. Here's a look at Thursdays in the 1995-96 season! ABC 8:00 8:30 9:00 10:00 Sep Charlie Grace The Monroes Various Programs Oct Murder One Nov Various Programs Dec Various Programs Thursday Night Movie Jan Feb World’s Funniest Videos Before They Were Stars! Mar Apr May NBC was the powerhouse on Thursday nights but ABC still gave it the old college try in the Fall of 1995 with a trio of new dramas that they hoped would help them cut into the Peacock's dominance. Headlining their night was Murder One , a high profile new show from Steven Bochco that received much of the network's attention before the season started. The series focused on one murder case for an entire season, whi...

DECADE IN REVIEW: The Best Comedies of the 2010s

During the month of December, I will be looking back at the decade that was the 2010s on TV. I will be sharing my favorite sitcoms, dramas, the best episodes, the best performances and the worst shows of the decade. To be eligible for this list, a show had to air the majority of its episodes in the 2010s. However, for the rankings and determination, all episodes were taken into account, including ones that may have aired before 2010. I will also preface that there are comedies that have aired this decade that I haven't watched yet so this is the best of what I have watched. To be fair, that preface is more true for dramas. There's not a ton of unwatched comedies sitting in my Netflix or Amazon watchlist. So here are my Top 10 comedies of the 2010s! Close Calls:  Master of None (Netflix) - An inconsistent but occasionally fascinating commentary on many life issues done so with innovative storytelling. The Good Place (NBC) - A show that aims high with a fascinating premis...
