On Friday, CBS has the season premiere of the celebrity edition of Undercover Boss, which hasn't been seen in nearly a year.

TV NEWS & THOUGHTS
- FOX has renewed Empire for a fifth season in a very unsurprising move. It will most likely return to the same Wednesday 8pm timeslot.
- FOX may be reviving Last Man Standing, which was produced by 20th Century FOX but aired on ABC for six years before its surprising cancellation a year ago. Tim Allen has signed on, but the rest of the details are not hammered out yet. Still seems more likely than not to happen in this revival age and after the smashing success of middle America hit Roseanne.
- ABC has renewed American Idol for its 17th season overall and second on ABC. After a year off, the show had a decent transition to ABC and will be back with host Ryan Seacrest and all three judges in tact.
- NBC picked up medical drama New Amsterdam to series. It was a surprise Friday night pickup before the flurry of pickups coming this week.
