It was a jam packed Wednesday night but FOX led the pack thanks to Empire of course. First up at 8pm, Rosewood was down half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 9pm, Empire was down six tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. This is its lowest result not counting Thanksgiving Eve but come on, it's still a 3.6. On NBC, Heartbeat started out things down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. Law & Order: SVU and Chicago PD were new for the first time since March 30 and the results were not pretty. SVU was down eight tenths in viewers and a rough three tenths in the demo to a series low. Interestingly, its previous series low was a 1.2 demo set during this same week last year. At 10pm, Chicago PD was down half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo, also hitting a series low. It had hit a 1.4 or 1.5 demo for 28 of its 58 episodes, but this was the first 1.3 demo.
On CBS, Survivor was even with last week. The season finale of Criminal Minds followed and was down three tenths in viewers but up a tenth in the demo. It had a much stronger second half of the year after a rough fall. It will certainly be back next season but it hasn't been officially renewed like most CBS shows because negotiations are always tricky with an outside studio and a veteran show with veteran contracts. At 10pm, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders was up two tenths in viewers and even in the demo. This is the worst it has done with a new Criminal Minds lead-in but I still expect it to come back. Finally, it was a mostly steady night for ABC. At 8pm, The Middle was up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo while The Goldbergs was up four tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 9pm, Modern Family was dead even with its last airing three weeks ago while Black-ish benefited a bit from not having a repeat lead-in and was up six tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 10pm, Nashville was up a tenth in viewers and even in the demo.
WINNER OF THE NIGHT: Criminal Minds (CBS)
LOSER OF THE NIGHT: Law & Order: SVU (NBC)
