On Monday night, The Voice just obliterated the competition as the first night of the battle round was up three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo, going up for a third straight week. Last year, the battle rounds were up their first week and then started dropping but this is a fantastic start beyond the always popular blind auditions. At 10pm, Revolution was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. The good news is that the fourth episode of this serial drama still got a 3.0 demo which is impressive. The bad news is that it has continued to go down even as The Voice has gone up and it had a brutal half hour drop. We're four episodes in and I still don't know how things are gonna look for this show in a few weeks.

Another Monday meant more bad news for CBS which saw all their shows drop week to week. At 8pm, How I Met Your Mother was down four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. The worst news came at 8:30pm when Partners was down a tenth in viewers and two tenths in the demo. Partners is already down to a 1.9 demo and it's bringing the whole night down. Conventional wisdom says that CBS is going to pull Made in Jersey first but I think Partners is the bigger problem because it's on a much more important night and it's bringing down CBS's top comedy priority which is making 2 Broke Girls into the next big hit. Girls recovered a lot from Partners and was up two tenths in viewers but down a tenth in the demo. Rules of Engagement or repeats of The Big Bang Theory would do better at 8:30pm. At 9:30pm, Mike & Molly was up two tenths in viewers and down a tenth in the demo. Finally at 10pm, Hawaii Five-0 was up four tenths in viewers and down a tenth in the demo. It looks like that first week demo of 1.8 wasn't a huge aberration. Hawaii is down more than most shows year-to-year.

ABC had some positive news to report on Monday for the first time this season as both their shows were up from last week. Dancing with the Stars was up 1.2 million viewers and a tenth in the demo but the better news came from Castle. The show was up two tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo for a season high. It also retained 100% of Dancing's demo which has never happened before. Of course that speaks more to the general weakness of Dancing than the strength of Castle but it's worth noting. On FOX, Bones was up two tenths in viewers and down a tenth in the demo. The Mob Doctor continued to explore new lows as it was down a tenth in viewers and the demo. With baseball scheduled in the next couple weeks, I really think this was the last time we see The Mob Doctor on Mondays and possibly ever.

EPISODE GUIDES: Rhoda Season Five

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Five (the final season) of  Rhoda ! RHODA: SEASON FIVE 1978 13 episodes Rhoda' s final season was a truncated one as the show was cancelled in December 1978 after only 13 episodes had been produced (and only nine had aired). This feels like a continuation from season four in many ways except with the ill-advised split between Ida and Martin (more on that below). While  Rhoda  has an occasional good moment and even a couple decent episodes, it is a show that seems so wildly different from season one and not in a good way.  Rhoda  could never figure out what it fully wanted to be and only made it four and a half seasons as a result. Starring Valerie Harper as Rhoda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Julie Kavner as Brenda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Ray Buktenica as Benny Goodwin  (11 episodes) Kenneth McMillan as Jack Doyle  (9 episodes) Nancy Wa...

SCHEDULES OF THE PAST: 1995-1996 Thursdays

Headlining their night was Murder One , a high profile new show from Steven Bochco that received much of the network's attention before the season started. The series focused on one murder case for an entire season, whi...

DECADE IN REVIEW: The Best Comedies of the 2010s

During the month of December, I will be looking back at the decade that was the 2010s on TV. I will be sharing my favorite sitcoms, dramas, the best episodes, the best performances and the worst shows of the decade. To be eligible for this list, a show had to air the majority of its episodes in the 2010s. However, for the rankings and determination, all episodes were taken into account, including ones that may have aired before 2010. I will also preface that there are comedies that have aired this decade that I haven't watched yet so this is the best of what I have watched. To be fair, that preface is more true for dramas. There's not a ton of unwatched comedies sitting in my Netflix or Amazon watchlist. So here are my Top 10 comedies of the 2010s! Close Calls:  Master of None (Netflix) - An inconsistent but occasionally fascinating commentary on many life issues done so with innovative storytelling. The Good Place (NBC) - A show that aims high with a fascinating premis...
