Despite mixed reviews and mild ratings, FOX showed a commitment to its Tuesday comedy block by ordering a full season of The Mindy Project and six additional episodes of Ben and Kate.
The Mindy Project starring Mindy Kaling was FOX's highest profile new fall show and given its best comedy slot after New Girl. Despite that, it premiered to a mild 2.4 demo and fell to a 1.9 demo in its second week. Still, this move isn't hugely surprising since FOX is thin on bench shows and they really want to make this show work. Ben and Kate got six more episodes despite registering a 1.6 demo in week two. FOX claims that one reason it didn't get a full season is creator Dana Fox's pregnancy. With only one comedy on the bench - midseason's The Goodwin Games, it looks like FOX plans to keep the comedy block all season with Goodwin coming in for Ben and Kate at some point in the spring. There was no word on their other fall freshman - The Mob Doctor - though many expect it will be cancelled in the near future.
The Mindy Project joins NBC's Revolution, Go On, and The New Normal on the full season pickup list.
