As NBC wrapped up its renewals and pilot pickups, it announced cancellations for Harry's Law and the no brainers Are You There Chelsea?, Best Friends Forever, Bent, and Awake.
The most on the bubble show was Harry's Law which was one of NBC's most watched shows in terms of total viewers but skewed incredibly old. The Kathy Bates drama regularly got between 7-9 million viewers (great for NBC) but by the end was getting demos below a 1. Networks can sometimes overlook old skewing shows when the demo is acceptable but below a 1 is unacceptable and NBC, despite renewing many low rated shows, parted with this one.
The other four cancelled series were no brainers. Are You There Chelsea? wrapped its season in March with miniscule ratings, Best Friends Forever (Chelsea's replacement) was yanked off the schedule early, Bent was burned off in three weeks with record low numbers, and Awake has been floundering big time in the Thursday 10pm slot that has been really bad for NBC recently. None of these shows had a chance at all of returning so NBC just made things official.
