ABC had mixed results with its Sunday night. At 7pm, America's Funniest Home Videos was up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo from last week and this seems to be about where the show is every week which isn't bad for a show that's over 20 years old. At 8pm, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was up a strong 3.2 million viewers and eight tenths in the demo compared to last week when it aired against the Grammys. The viewer total is a season high but now Makeover will take a break for the Oscars next week and then six weeks of new show Secret Millionaire. At 9pm, Desperate Housewives was up 1.4 million viewers and four tenths in the demo from last week's episode against the Grammys. It was a nice jump but actually not as high a jump as it should have been for this aging series. At 10pm, Brothers & Sisters was up just half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo from last week's lows and that should definitely have been a higher jump. If there's any show that ABC needs to move elsewhere, it's this one.

CBS's lineup was back in tact for the first time since December. At 7pm, 60 Minutes was down seven tenths in viewers and a rough six tenths in the demo to a 1.4. While no one would expect this veteran show to do as well as it does in the fall following football, CBS would probably like the demo to be a bit higher. At 8pm, The Amazing Race returned for its newest edition but it's numbers were way down from its fall premiere numbers. We'll have to see how it performs in the coming weeks but it's hard to compare it to the fall when it often followed a much stronger 60 Minutes that was following football. At 9pm, Undercover Boss was down a rough 2.9 million viewers and eight tenths in the demo from its last new airing on January 16, but that was on a night that CBS aired a divisional playoff game but it was still a season low in the demo. Finally at 10pm, CSI: Miami was down 1.5 million viewers and two tenths in the demo from its last airing, also on January 16. Overall, CBS is much more average on this night without a football powered lead-in, but these numbers are probably close to what it will get this spring.

NBC had a quiet Sunday night. At 7pm, Dateline NBC was six tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo from last week's two hour edition while two SNL specials, one a repeat and one a new special, delivered so-so results. FOX aired its regular animated lineup. Following a Simpsons rerun, the recently renewed American Dad! aired at 7:30 and was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo from last week's lows. These numbers aren't horrible for a 7:30pm show. At 8pm, The Simpsons was up seven tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo while Bob's Burgers was up the same. Bob's Burgers just doesn't seem to be doing much with a decent lead-in, it hasn't caught on yet. At 9pm, Family Guy was up six tenths in viewers and also a tenth in the demo, winning its half-hour in the demo against the likes of Desperate Housewives and Undercover Boss. At 9:30pm, The Cleveland Show was up six tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo, the only show to go up more than a tenth in the demo from last week.

SEASON IN REVIEW: 2017-18 Miscellaneous Awards

As usual, I am ending the season with a few miscellaneous awards. The blog will be quiet this summer but I will continue to do the week ahead posts with broadcast TV news as it happens this summer. Then I'll be back for previews, pilot reviews, and more in the fall! BEST RETURNING COMEDY Superstore (NBC) - Superstore was awarded my "Best Returning Comedy" last year, but it only got better in season three. The funniest ensemble on TV took another step forward with some truly hilarious moments (the season premiere, the Golden Globes party, and the Christmas episode to name a few) and some major plot points moving forward. It also has the potential to be surprisingly sentimental at times. I think back to the first year of the show and how I felt like it had so many funny elements but didn't always bring it completely together. Well now it does on a weekly basis and it is one of those shows that just seems to be in the sweet spot of what will hopefully be a long run. ...

EPISODE GUIDES: Happy Days Season Five (Part 1)

On Thursdays, I take a detailed and critical look at a TV show by season. Today I am looking at Season 5 (Part 1) of  Happy Days ! HAPPY DAYS: SEASON FIVE 1977-1978 27 episodes Season Five is the year where Fonzie infamously jumps the shark. It happens at the beginning of the season and while  Happy Days  does eventually decline in quality, it is not this season. In fact, this season graded out slightly higher than the previous season even though it doesn't feel as strong. I think that's because there's not a lot of outright stinkers in this season. It's a very solid season with the show continuing to hum along. There are some signs of the troubles to come but it doesn't happen on a regular basis in the fifth season. Starring Ron Howard as Richie Cunningham  (27 episodes) Henry Winkler as Arthur Fonzarelli  (27 episodes) Tom Bosley as Howard Cunningham  (27 episodes) Marion Ross as Marion Cunningham  (27 episodes) Anson Williams as Potsie Webber  ...

EPISODE GUIDES: That 70s Show Season Seven

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Seven of  That 70s Show ! THAT 70s SHOW: SEASON SEVEN 2004-2005 25 episodes The seventh season of  That 70s Show  is the final season with Topher Grace as a series regular and also the final full season for Ashton Kutcher. Despite still having both of those cast member, the show finds itself flailing especially with Topher Grace's Eric, who is stuck in a terrible arc for most of the season. The show also brings many characters back at one point or another but everything just feels tired. This season actually graded out the worst for me. Even worse than the often maligned final season (more on that next week). Every title this season is named for a Rolling Stones song. Starring Topher Grace as Eric Forman  (25 episodes) Mila Kunis as Jackie Burkhart  (25 episodes) Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso  (25 episodes) Danny Masterson as Steven Hyde  (25 e...
