CBS had more renewal news today but it was no surprise with another year's worth (two installments) of the veteran reality show Survivor. The granddaddy of network reality shows will once again air a fall and spring edition next year, which will be the show's 23rd and 24th installments. It has been a beacon of stability on a stable network and the current edition has averaged a solid 11.1 million viewers and a 3.2 demo. Plus, it made a seamless transition to Wednesday night in the fall after airing on Thursdays for almost a decade and now its holding its own against American Idol.
CBS has some tough choices to make for its fall schedule with so many successful dramas on the air but they also may have to reorganize their comedies with the instability of Two and a Half Men. Aside from the obvious cancellation of The Defenders, the dramas in the most danger seem to be CSI: NY and CSI: Miami while Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, Blue Bloods, and The Good Wife are not sure-thing renewals yet. CBS would be wise to try to air original programming on Saturday next season. If any network can, they can.
