BENJAMONSTER AWARDS 2024: Outstanding Guest Actor or Actress in a Limited/Anthology Series

Today's award is Outstanding Guest Actor or Actress in a Limited/Anthology Series! To qualify for this category, they had to appear in four episodes or less than half, whichever is smaller.

Past Awards in This Category: 2023   2022   2021   2020

This year's nominees are...

TOM GOODMAN-HILL as Darrien in Baby Reindeer (Netflix)

HUGH GRANT as Edward Keplinger in The Regime (HBO)

MAURIZIO LOMBARDI as Inspector Pietro Ravini in Ripley (Netflix)

KARI MATCHETT as Linda in Fargo (FX)

ELIOT SUMNER as Freddie Miles in Ripley (Netflix)

BOKEEM WOODBINE as Alvin McCarron in Ripley (Netflix)

And the Winner Is...
MAURIZIO LOMBARDI
Ripley (Netflix)
Maurizio Lombardi almost feels like a supporting actor in Ripley than a guest actor because he was so prominent once he arrived in the show. But he didn't appear until the sixth episode in an eight episode season so he qualifies as a guest star. Lombardi's Inspector Ravini was such a great presence even if he was only ok as a detective. He was so annoyed with Andrew Scott's Ripley and it seemed like he had the right instincts only to be completely flummoxed by the con Ripley was pulling. Lombardi has such a dry sense of humor and deadpan delivery to everything he did. Not that Ripley needed a jolt of energy but Lombardi brought a different sensibility for the final couple episodes that brought the series to a very satisfying conclusion.

Thoughts on the Rest of the Nominees:
Two of Lombardi's Ripley co-stars were also in the running. Eliot Sumner appeared in one of the tensest episodes of Ripley and went toe to toe with Andrew Scott in great extended scenes. Bokeem Woodbine bookended the series with some great scenes a funny moments. Among the non-Ripley candidates, Tom Goodman-Hill was horrific as a manipulative jerk in Baby Reindeer. Kari Matchett was a great guest star in a surreal episode of Fargo where it wasn't clear at the time how real it was or if it was a dream sequence. Finally, The Regime was a complete mess but Hugh Grant's guest appearance did liven things up and give the show a temporary pulse.

Tomorrow: Outstanding Guest Actor or Actress in a Drama Series!
