Due to ongoing negotiations, Two and a Half Men was not able to be among the slew of shows renewed by CBS about a month ago but it was always a foregone conclusion. Now that was made official today as Two and a Half Men was renewed for an eleventh (!) season. However, the "half" in Two and a Half Men, Agnus T. Jones, won't return as a series regular and instead be a recurring character. Now only one of the original three, Jon Cryer, is still with the show full time but he and Ashton Kutcher were the key people CBS needed to sign back on and they did so Men will continue. Once the Monday 9pm tentpole, CBS made the bold move of sending Men to Thursdays where it followed megahit (and former lead-out) The Big Bang Theory. It has shored up a timeslot that CBS couldn't get to work with shows like $#*! My Dad Says, How to Be a Gentleman, and Rob (wonder why?) Some think CBS will go to two hours of comedy on Thursdays next year. If that happens, Men will certainly be one of the anchors, probably 8pm. If they don't go that route, who knows what will happen because CBS might be tempted to give another new show a chance out of Big Bang.
With this news, only a few CBS shows do not have their fates decided one way or another: Criminal Minds, CSI: NY, Golden Boy, Rules of Engagement, and Vegas. Of those five shows, Minds is a sure bet to return but just in tough re-negotiations. The other four are likely cancellations, but you never know with Rules of Engagement.
