Viewers: 6.6 million, 18-49 demo: 2.0

FOX
8:00 American Idol
Viewers: 13.3 million, 18-49 demo: 3.9

On the final night of February sweeps, most ABC shows were down but Modern Family managed to tie American Idol in the demo. At 8pm, The Middle was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo while The Neighbors was down the same. Some weeks, The Neighbors looks like an over-performer but other weeks, it looks like ABC could easily cancel it at the end of the season. This week was the latter category. At 9pm, Modern Family was down a tenth in viewers and the demo but it's 3.9 demo tied American Idol. It's only a matter of time before it beats Idol. At 9:30pm, Suburgatory had the strongest performance week-to-week as it was up four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. Finally at 10pm, Nashville was down half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo for a series low. It is being left in the dust by CSI and Chicago Fire.

Over on CBS, Survivor was down a tenth in viewers but up two tenths in the demo as it seems to be rebounding from its low premiere. It's year-to-year numbers are much better now. At 9pm, Criminal Minds was down four tenths in viewers and even in the demo. This show has been struggling recently for CBS. At 10pm, CSI was down a big 1.3 million viewers and four tenths in the demo, losing to Chicago Fire again. This show has been wildly up and down over the last couple weeks, I'm not exactly sure why it's fluctuating so much. On FOX, American Idol was down 1.1 million viewers and two tenths in the demo to its lowest numbers since the initial season way back in the summer of 2002. This show is just getting old, no matter what they do with the judges panel. However, a 3.9 demo is still strong so it's not going anywhere yet.

Finally on NBC, Whitney started off the night up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 8:30pm, the season finale of Guys with Kids was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. I'd be shocked if this was back for a second season but stranger things have happened. At 9pm, Law & Order: SVU was down two tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 10pm, Chicago Fire continued to be the brightest spot on NBC's lineup as it was up a tenth in viewers and the demo, winning the hour once again. I think we'll see an early renewal for next season for this show since it's the only, and I mean only, NBC show that is showing some strength right now.

Viewers: 3.3 million, 18-49 demo: 1.7

Tuesday night had the series premiere of Golden Boy on CBS as it will air twice on Tuesday before moving to Friday nights. Earlier in the night, NCIS was down four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo while NCIS: Los Angeles was up eight tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. Then at 10pm, Golden Boy premiered slightly above the numbers Vegas has been getting lately but well below where it premiered in September. This was a disappointing premiere number for a show that's been heavily promoted and seemingly fits better with the NCIS twins. There was also a big second half drop which is never a good sign. It's very likely, given these numbers, that neither Vegas or Golden Boy are going to get a second season.

Over on ABC, the season premiere of Celebrity Wife Swap featuring Kate Gosselin and Kendra Wilkinson was a surprise with a 2.4 demo premiere, a series high and the best non-CBS demo of the night. It's interesting how The Bachelor and now Celebrity Wife Swap of all shows have been outperforming Dancing with the Stars. It'll be interesting to see if it can hold up with less buzzy names next week. At 9pm, The Taste was down seven tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for a series low. This show is slowly withering away. At 10pm, Body of Proof was down four tenths in viewers and even in the demo from its low premiere last week.

It was another trying evening for NBC with the 1.3 demo for Betty White's Off Their Rockers was their top draw at the night. At 9pm, Go On was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo while The New Normal was down two tenths in viewers but up a tenth in the demo. These shows have completely plummeted. The question now is, will they recover when The Voice is back or is the damage done? At 10pm, Smash was down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. Why is NBC opting to air Hannibal on Thursdays when they could easily put it on a night with The Voice and ride out Smash's low numbers on Thursdays?

Finally on FOX, Raising Hope was down two tenths in viewers and even in the demo at 8pm while the 8:30pm episode was slightly down from that. This show hasn't been as strong lately but I think a fourth season is all but assured, even if it is on a burnoff night like Friday. At 9pm, New Girl was even in viewers and up a tenth in the demo. At 9:30pm, The Mindy Project was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. I really don't know what's going to happen with this show, I think it's possibly the biggest toss-up on any network. It really depends on what FOX wants to do with comedies next year.

PILOT REVIEW: Golden Boy

GOLDEN BOY

Starring: Theo James, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany, Stella Maeve, and Chi McBride

Created by Nicholas Wootten
Written by Nicholas Wootten, Directed by Richard Shepard

Golden Boy is a unique cop drama that follows the meteoric rise of Walter Clark (Theo James) from a cop to Police Commissioner at age 34. The series opens with Clark as Commissioner and then rewinds seven years to the start of his ascent with a heroic rescue and promotion to homicide. There, he meets a gruff but supportive partner in Don Owen (Chi McBride) as well as three other homicide officers (Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, and Holt McCallany). Rounding out the main cast is Walter's troubled younger sister Agnes (Stella Maeve).

THE GOOD: I was skeptical of this premise but they really sold it well in the pilot. The flashforwards at the very beginning of the episode and at the very end provided lots of intrigue into where these characters will go if the show can survive long enough. Theo James is strong in the lead role, he's unlikable at times but he's supposed to be. He's a bit of an antihero and plays it well. The real standout in the cast is Chi McBride and it's easy to see why they strayed a bit from their original setup to emphasize the partnership between McBride and James. The other characters are solid but not spectacular, though it looks like they will be headed in interesting places.

THE BAD: There were times where the case of the week aspect of the show dragged. I'm fine with this show being a case of the week style, but it needs to be interesting and this one wasn't at times. The show also needs to be careful to not make the meteoric rise too meteoric. Seven years is quick for what's happening but a long time for a TV show. If the show is fortunate enough to live (and early indications aren't promising), they can't get to or near their endpoint too quickly. The show also needs to avoid overly dramatic moments like Walter shaking as he's about to shoot. It didn't play right to me.

BOTTOM LINE: All in all, this was one of the better drama pilots of the season. It took a concept that could be almost gimmicky and made it work in a believable and interesting way. The performances were strong in general with McBride as a major standout. It didn't do that well in the ratings but I'm willing to stick with it for the season. It's been a few years since there was a great cop show (the ill-fated Detroit 1-8-7). This has a chance to be the next one. Let's hope CBS is patient.

Monday night was another good one for ABC. At 8pm, The Bachelor was down a tenth in viewers and the demo but still very strong. At 10pm, Castle was up nine tenths in viewers and even in the demo. CBS had a pretty bad night by comparison as everything was down. At 8pm, How I Met Your Mother held up the best as it was down just three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. Rules of Engagement was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. 2 Broke Girls was up a tenth in viewers but down two tenths in the demo for a season low. For whatever reason, Mike & Molly was hit the hardest as it was down half a million viewers and a rough half a demo point for a season low. I'm not sure why this was down so hard compared to the others.

FOX had a solid night as well as Bones was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo to lead off. Then at 9pm, The Following was up two tenths in viewers and down a tenth in the demo as it held up well again this week. I think it's safe to call this show a hit now but I said that a couple weeks ago then it had a dramatic drop before climbing back. Finally on NBC, The Biggest Loser was up a tenth in viewers and the demo as it will most likely be the top demo for NBC this week. At 10pm, Deception was up two tenths in viewers and even in the demo.

GOOD WEEK/BAD WEEK: February 23, 2013

GOOD WEEK: "THE BACHELOR"
Most long running reality series that have been major players in the last ten years have been losing some of their audience this year from Dancing with the Stars to Survivor to American Idol. But The Bachelor, which was showing lots of erosion last year, has had quite a resurgence this winter. Even against CBS's Monday comedies and FOX's successful new drama The Following, it has been climbing this season and reached a 3.0 demo that it never saw last season. It is also doing far better than Dancing with the Stars was in the fall which never happens. Also, two special Tuesday editions ABC aired have done very well. For whatever reason, The Bachelor is a hot show again, and ABC is reaping the profits.

BAD WEEK: NBC COMEDIES
Let's just do a quick recap of NBC's demo numbers this week for their comedies from best to worst

Parks and Recreation - 1.4
Community - 1.1
Whitney - 1.1
Go On - 1.1
1600 Penn - 1.0
Guys with Kids - 1.0
The New Normal - 0.9

Those are absolutely horrible numbers across the board. They probably all deserve cancellations except for maybe Parks and Recreation, so the question is does NBC clean house with their comedies? They have many dramas likely to return - Revolution, Grimm, Law & Order: SVU, Chicago Fire, and Parenthood. They also have promising sitcom pilots including vehicles for Michael J. Fox, Sean Hayes, Ellie Kemper, Christina Ricci, Craig Robinson, Mike O'Malley, and Parker Posey. My prediction is that Parks and maybe Go On stay, and everything else is cancelled.

RATINGS RECAP: 2/22/13

8:00 Kitchen Nightmares
Viewers: 3.1 million, 18-49 demo: 1.1
9:00 Touch
Viewers: 2.5 million, 18-49 demo: 0.7

On Friday night, CBS brought back Undercover Boss after two weeks of failed replacement The Job. It returned down from the numbers it was getting before The Job but I wouldn't be surprised to see it climb back up soon. At 9pm, the season (and quite possibly series) finale of CSI: NY was up nine tenths in viewers and even in the demo. I would be very surprised if CBS renewed this long running drama for another year. At 10pm, Blue Bloods was up five tenths in viewers and even in the demo. On FOX, Kitchen Nightmares was dead even with last week while Touch was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo.

Over on ABC, Last Man Standing was down seven tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo while Malibu Country was down the same for a series low. At 9pm, Shark Tank was even in viewers and up a tenth in the demo for a night-best 1.9 demo. At 10pm, 20/20 was up two tenths in viewers and down a tenth in the demo. Finally on NBC, Dateline NBC was down four tenths in viewers and up a tenth in the demo while Rock Center was down three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo.

FOX
 8:00 American Idol
Viewers: 13.7 million, 18-49 demo: 3.9

On Thursday night, ABC had their new trio of dramas but it looks like one of them won't be around for long as Zero Hour fell a million viewers and three tenths in the demo from its already low premiere last week. The latest Thursday 8pm bomb for ABC may not even last as long as Last Resort did. At 9pm, Grey's Anatomy was up two tenths in viewers and a good three tenths in the demo. At 10pm, Scandal was down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. Over on FOX, a two hour American Idol was up nine tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo from last week's one hour episode.

On CBS, The Big Bang Theory was down three tenths in viewers but up a tenth in the demo. This show is so far ahead every other show on TV in the demo. At 8:30pm, Two and a Half Men was also down three tenths in viewers and up a tenth in the demo. At 9pm, Person of Interest was down seven tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo as it went back to losing to Grey's Anatomy in the demo. At 10pm, Elementary was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. It has been quietly inching back up in the demo and closing the gap a little bit with Scandal.

NBC was a mess as Community was up three tenths in viewers but down a tenth in the demo to a terrible 1.1. Two episodes of Parks and Recreation including the hyped wedding episode disappointed as they were down a tenth in the demo from last week. Yet a 1.4 demo is the highest rating any NBC sitcom has gotten this week. At 9:30pm, 1600 Penn was down three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo from its last airing to a new series low. And they are really thinking about adding the promising Hannibal to this night?

Wednesday night brought pretty usual numbers but ABC had mostly reasons to smile. At 8pm, The Middle was up six tenths in viewers and four tenths in the demo as it rebounded nicely from last week's season low. The Neighbors followed suit as it was up four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. At 9pm, Modern Family was up half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo as it got back to a 4 in the demo after a couple down weeks. At 9:30pm, Suburgatory was down two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo despite the lead-in being up. It also finished just a tenth ahead of The Neighbors despite a much better lead-in. This is the biggest problem in the block right now.

On CBS, Survivor followed up last week's very low premiere by holding steady in week two which is better news for CBS. It was up four tenths in viewers and even in the demo. The worse news came at 9pm though where Criminal Minds fell 1.3 million and two tenths in the demo to a new series low. It seems like one of these shows underperforms every week. At 10pm, CSI rebounded as well as it was up 2.2 million viewers and four tenths in the demo. On FOX, American Idol was up nine tenths in viewers but down two tenths in the demo.

Finally on NBC, Whitney was down half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo and Guys with Kids was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo. These are terrible numbers but they're pretty comparable to the Tuesday sitcoms. So does NBC cancel all four sitcoms, not to mention Community and 1600 Penn? They should but who knows if they will. At 9pm, Law & Order: SVU was down six tenths in viewers but up a tenth in the demo despite competition from Criminal Minds this week. At 10pm, Chicago Fire was down two tenths in viewers and even in the demo. It didn't come close to CSI this week because CSI was up but it was steady which is another good sign for this show.

On Tuesday night, ABC had the return of Body of Proof but the return was not positive. First off, The Taste was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo from last week. At 9pm, a special surrounding The Bachelor once again proved that The Bachelor is sizzling this season as it was well above normal levels for ABC at this time. At 10pm though, despite the decent lead-in, Body of Proof returned to tie its series low with a 1.2 demo. This probably means that season three will be the final one for this show but it did cheat death last year so who knows.

Over on CBS, NCIS was down seven tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo and NCIS: Los Angeles was down four tenths in viewers and a surprising four tenths in the demo. I'm not exactly sure what happened at 9pm. At 10pm, Vegas was down eight tenths in viewers and even in the demo. Golden Boy premieres with a Tuesday preview next week at 10pm. It will be interesting to see how it does compared to Vegas. FOX was down across the board. At 8pm, Raising Hope was down two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. After a repeat lead-in, New Girl was down half a million viewers and four tenths in the demo. This show is still pretty lead-in dependent despite being an anchor. At 9:30pm, The Mindy Project was down half a million viewers and three tenths in the demo. I think this show is still majorly on the bubble for next year.

Finally in basement NBC, things were pretty bleak. At 8pm, two episodes of Betty White's Off Their Rockers were both down from their last airing. At 9pm, the comedies continued to explore new lows as Go On was down seven tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo and The New Normal was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. Both were new series lows. How low can they possibly go before The Voice returns? At 10pm, Smash was down a rough 1.2 million viewers and three tenths in the demo from its already low premiere two weeks ago. Isn't it sad that a 0.9 demo for NBC probably means cancellation but a 1.1 demo could mean a possible renewal?

Monday night was a strong one for ABC which saw great numbers for its Bachelor-Castle combo which is better than when Dancing with the Stars aired in the fall. At 8pm, The Bachelor was up an impressive eight tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo for its best rating since March 2011. This show has had a strong resurgence this year. Who would have thought it would be well above Dancing in the demo? At 10pm, Castle was up nine tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo for a season high. It was also the first time it beat Hawaii Five-0 in the demo since October 8.

On CBS, How I Met Your Mother was down a tenth in viewers but up two tenths in the demo. At 8:30pm, Rules of Engagement was down two tenths in viewers and up a tenth in the demo. CBS keeps trying to get rid of this show but it remains incredibly reliable. At 9pm, 2 Broke Girls was down six tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo for its lowest demo performance since December. At 9:30pm, Mike & Molly was down two tenths in viewers but up two tenths in the demo, showing better retention out of Broke than usual and equaling it in total viewers. Despite Girls not being all that impressive as a 9pm anchor, Mike & Molly has been very strong this year. At 10pm, Hawaii Five-0 was down half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo for its lowest demo since November 5.

On FOX, Bones was down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo but there was great news at 9pm where The Following rebounded in a big way as it was up six tenths in viewers and half a demo point. This is a huge rebound and FOX must be breathing a huge sigh of relief with these numbers. Finally on NBC, The Biggest Loser was up a tenth in viewers and the demo for what will certainly be NBC's top demo of the week. At 10pm, Deception was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo from last week.

Sunday night brought the return of some normalcy for one week before the Oscars but most numbers were down substantially from where they were before the many January and February Sunday events. On CBS, 60 Minutes started off the night down 1.3 million viewers and half a demo point. At 8pm, the 22nd edition of The Amazing Race premiered pretty much exactly where it was in the fall, which is good. It also was ahead of Survivor's season premiere which is pretty surprising and impressive for Race. The news was not as good for the dramas. At 9pm, The Good Wife was down a million viewers and two tenths in the demo for a series low while The Mentalist was down 1.1 million viewers and three tenths in the demo. It doesn't seem like CBS can keep both of these underperformers so which one stays - the critically acclaimed Wife or The Mentalist, which has more syndication possibilities? My money is on The Mentalist to stay.

On ABC, America's Funniest Home Videos was down seven tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo. At 8pm, Once Upon a Time was up half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo from last week's series low. It did go up but didn't get nearly as much of a rise as it probably should have. At 9pm, Revenge rebounded a little bit better as it was up eight tenths in viewers and four tenths in the demo. FOX's animated shows were right around last week's levels or slightly down which is odd since the competition was lighter. This lineup is pretty weak without a football lead-in.

CANCELLATION ALERT: The Job

CBS has yanked Friday reality show The Job after two very low rated episodes. The reality series took over for Undercover Boss but premiered a full demo point lower than Boss with a terrible 0.9 demo. Then it week two, it dipped to 0.7 and seemed to take CSI: NY down with it. CBS will have no more of that especially with Golden Boy joining the Friday lineup soon. Boss will return to its 8pm slot, much sooner than expected. It's quite possible we'll see The Job on Saturdays at some point for a burnoff.

It has been an uncharacteristically rough year for the newbies on CBS as The Job joined Made in Jersey and Partners as quick cancellations. How I Met Your Mother and NCIS are the only official renewals for next season but there are many shows sure to join them: 2 Broke Girls, The Amazing Race, The Big Bang Theory, Blue Bloods, CSI, Criminal Minds, Elementary, Hawaii Five-0, Mike & Molly, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest, Survivor, Undercover Boss, and (if they can lock up the actors), Two and a Half Men. On the bubble is CSI: NY, The Good Wife, The Mentalist, Rules of Engagement, and Vegas. At least three if not four of those shows are likely going to be gone.

It was a rough Friday night as nearly every show was down week-to-week. On CBS, week two of The Job was down seven tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo from its horrible premiere number last week. I'd be really surprised if we saw a third week of this show. At 9pm, CSI: NY seemed impacted by the low lead-in as it fell a million viewers and three tenths in the demo, tying a series low. The season, and quite possibly series, finale is next week. At 10pm, Blue Bloods was down half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo. On FOX, Kitchen Nightmares was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo from its last airing while Touch was down a rough 1.3 million viewers and four tenths in the demo from last week's low season premiere. Touch may not be gone by next week but it's not here for long.

On ABC, Last Man Standing was down six tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo while Malibu Country was down three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 9pm, Shark Tank was up four tenths in viewers and even in the demo and remained the top Friday performer. At 10pm, 20/20 was up six tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. On NBC, Dateline NBC was down two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo while Rock Center was down three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo.

GOOD WEEK/BAD WEEK: February 16, 2013

GOOD WEEK: "CHICAGO FIRE"
OK, so I know I just gave it to this show two weeks ago but it deserves it again after tying CSI in the demo for the first time ever. No one thought this show had a real chance against CSI and the much more buzzed Nashville. But it regularly beats Nashville and has its eye on CSI. Just to compare, Nashville premiered with a 2.8 demo on October 10 and it is down to a 1.8 demo, a full point drop. On that very same night and at the very same time, Chicago Fire debuted to a 1.9 demo and that is where it stands today. It is the overperformer of the year as far as I'm concerned because it seemed like NBC didn't even have huge hopes for it.

BAD WEEK: ABC THURSDAY AT 8PM
With the terrible 1.4 demo premiere of Zero Hour on Thursday night, ABC continues to be stuck in reverse in that hour despite a solid 1-2 punch of Grey's Anatomy and Scandal to close the night. Since the Fall of 2009, FlashForward, The Deep End, My Generation, Charlie's Angels, Missing, and Last Resort have all failed in the slot. And now it would take a miracle to not add Zero Hour to this list by the end of the season. I have said it before and I'll say it again, ABC should consider moving Dancing with the Stars/The Bachelor to Tuesday 8pm and then air the Dancing results on Thursday night. When Dancing takes its break, ABC can use filler until it comes back. I think it would shore up a slot that has been nothing short of a constant failure.

PILOT REVIEW: Zero Hour

ZERO HOUR

Starring: Anthony Edwards, Carmen Ejogo, Scott Michael Foster, Addison Timlin, with Jacinda Barrett, and Michael Nyqvist

Created by Paul Scheuring
Written by Paul Scheuring, Directed by Pierre Morel

Zero Hour is a new conspiracy drama on ABC that is based on a deep and dark secret that skeptic magazine editor Hank Galliston (Anthony Edwards) is thrown into when his wife Laila (Jacinda Barrett) is captured. As Galliston explores, the story connects back to the Nazis in 1938 and Galliston must beat world renowned criminal White Vincent (Michael Nyqvist) from uncovering the secret which has to do with clocks. Helping Galliston are his co-workers and friends Arron and Rachel (Sean Michael Foster, Addison Timlin), and an FBI agent (Carmen Ejogo), whose husband was murdered by Vincent.

THE GOOD: This pilot got better as it went along after a very slow beginning. Once it really started to delve into the conspiracy, it got a little more intriguing. The various locations this show travels to from the Arctic circle to 1938 Germany keeps things interesting and there were great guest turns by Charles S. Dutton and particularly Jan Triska as an old clockmaker. I must admit that while there were several flaws which I will get into below, I am interested to see where this story goes.

THE BAD: After the necessary (but long) exposition set in 1938 Germany, the show seemed stuck in neutral for a lot of the episode as the show was feeling more like Taken and less like a conspiracy thriller. There are also loads of cornball lines that were delivered throughout the episode, particularly from Foster and Timlin whose characters seem more into the "treasure map" than anything else. This show is trying to do a lot of things and it seems ready to pull us viewers in many different directions. But I'm not sure the writing and main ensemble are strong enough to make that happen.

BOTTOM LINE: There are so many conspiracy thrillers out there and this one is seeking to be a huge conspiracy that impacts the world and its history. I'm just not convinced at all that these writers are up to the task thanks to a mundane and somewhat predictable pilot. For a conspiracy thriller to really work, the conspiracy has to be awesome and I just get the feeling that this show, should it last long enough to answer the questions, runs a major risk of being a regular disappointment because the conspiracies aren't as good as you wished. And that's the problem with a show like Zero Hour. I'll stick with it for another week but then I (and probably ABC) will reevaluate if this is worth my time.

Valentine's Day meant some depressed numbers, particularly in the 8pm hour. ABC opted to premiere their newest drama Zero Hour on the night and it did not pay off as the drama had a very low 1.4 premiere. Although Last Resort was pulling lower demos than this by the end, its premiere was much stronger which means Zero Hour will most likely join the ever-growing list of dramas that have failed in this timeslot for ABC. At 9pm, Grey's Anatomy was down three tenths in viewers and the demo while at 10pm, Scandal was down a tenth in viewers and the demo. When the preliminary numbers came in, it looked like Scandal was going to top Grey's for the first time but then Grey's adjusted up and Scandal adjusted down. So it wasn't this week, but it's likely happening soon.

On CBS, The Big Bang Theory was down 1.1 million viewers and seven tenths in the demo but it still posted awesome numbers, especially for 8pm on Valentine's Day. Two and a Half Men was down four tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo. At 9pm, Person of Interest was even in viewers from last week and down just a tenth in the demo. Lots of people think CBS should expand to two hours of comedy on Thursdays but why do that when Person is their youngest hit drama and its pulling in great numbers. At 10pm, Elementary was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo as it was the only show on any network to rise week to week.

NBC got some terrible news at 8pm as Community proved its solid season premiere numbers was a one week wonder. It plummeted 1.1 million viewers and seven tenths in the demo to a low 1.2 demo. A fifth season seems much more unlikely now. At 8:30pm, Parks and Recreation also fell hard as it was down six tenths in viewers and half a demo point. The Office, with a one hour episode, held up much better week-to-week as it was down just a tenth in viewers and the demo. The Office and The Biggest Loser will be NBC's only two shows to break a 2 demo this week. FOX was hit hard as American Idol was down seven tenths in viewers and four tenths in the demo and Glee was down nine tenths in viewers and a rough half a demo point.

Wednesday night was a rough one for CBS as Survivor returned with its 26th edition and hit a SERIES low in the demo in its premiere. This franchise is tired, which should be expected with two installments a year for over a decade. I have said for awhile and I'll say it again - CBS should let Survivor and The Amazing Race share a timeslot and do one installment of each per year. It will keep both shows more fresh. They aired a repeat episode of The Big Bang Theory at 9:30pm which didn't do much especially airing against a Big Bang repeat on TBS. That hurt CSI which tumbled 2.5 million viewers and half a demo point to, yes, a SERIES low. So both of CBS' long running hits fell to series lows on Wednesday night, yikes.

While a 1.9 demo might be bad to one 10pm show, it was great for another over on NBC. First off though, the comedies continued to be bottom feeders at 8pm where Whitney was dead even with last week but Guys with Kids was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for a series low at a terrible 1.0 demo. This show is not coming back even if NBC adds some multicam comedies. At 9pm, Law & Order: SVU was up 1.2 million viewers but even in the demo. At 10pm, Chicago Fire was up a tenth in viewers and even in the demo as it tied CSI for the lead in the demo for the first time. Talk about an overperformer on a network that desperately needs one.

Over on ABC, The Middle started off the night in a disappointing fashion as it was down half a million viewers and a rough four tenths in the demo for a season low. I'm not sure what explains this big drop since everything else was steady or up. At 8:30pm, The Neighbors was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo. The good news is it had much better retention out of The Middle this week. At 9pm, Modern Family was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo but it was still well below normal. At 9:30pm, Suburgatory was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. Finally at 10pm, Nashville was up four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo but it still landed in third in the timeslot. Finally on FOX, American Idol fell another eight tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo.

On Monday night, CBS had a decent Monday but every show was down some from last week which was the day after the Super Bowl. At 8pm, How I Met Your Mother took the biggest hit from last week's inflated number as it was down 1.3 million viewers and eight tenths in the demo. At 8:30pm, Rules of Engagement was down a million viewers and three tenths in the demo from last week's season premiere though the retention was much better this week. This remains one of the best companions CBS can find for their hits. At 9pm, 2 Broke Girls had the best week-to-week performance as it was down half a million viewers and just a tenth in the demo. At 9:30pm, Mike & Molly was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. At 10pm, Hawaii Five-0 was down the same.

Over on FOX, Bones started the night down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. Then at 9pm, The Following had a pretty troubling week four drop as it was down 1.2 million viewers and a rough half a demo point. Is this show fading already or was this just a mirage this week? Next week will go a long way towards telling whether this is headed in the Alcatraz direction or not. All things seemed good but this was a rough drop. I expect FOX will continue to plug the show as much as they possibly can and hope things don't continue to go south.

On ABC, The Bachelor continued to improve as it was up an impressive six tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo. This show is having a very nice winter after last year's drops. It's easily outperforming most weeks of Dancing with the Stars, who would have thought? At 10pm, Castle was up a tenth in viewers and two tenths in the demo, coming closer to Hawaii Five-0 in the demo than it's been for awhile. Finally on NBC, The Biggest Loser was down two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo while Deception was up a tenth in viewers and the demo.

Sunday night had the Grammy Awards which were down big, as expected, from last year's award show a day after Whitney Houston's death. Despite the drop, it was still a dominating performance close to the levels of the last couple years before 2012's inflated numbers. On FOX, the animated sitcoms were new against the Grammys but down across the board from their last airing. It was interesting to note that American Dad! actually tied The Simpsons in the demo.

ABC's dramas took a  major hit against the Grammys as expected but the carnage was worse than expected for Revenge in particular. There was good news at 7pm when America's Funniest Home Videos was up half a million viewers and even in the demo. At 8pm, Once Upon a Time was down six tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for a series low but things were even worse for Revenge which collapsed six tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo to a terrible series low. Yes, the Grammys obviously hurt it but this show seems to be on a downward spiral right now in both ratings and buzz. A Revenge for Real special at 10pm did nothing.

It was another DOA midseason premiere on Friday night and CBS' new reality show The Job flopped in its premiere with a pitiful 0.9 demo that tied Do No Harm's historically bad premiere number. It was also a full demo point below Undercover Boss last week. It seems unlikely that CBS will stick with this show for long as they have Boss on the bench. At 9pm, CSI: NY was down eight tenths in viewers but up a tenth in the demo in a two part crossover episode with CSI. At 10pm, Blue Bloods was down three tenths in viewers but even in the demo.

FOX also had a rough start for Touch in its second season premiere. Without a lead-in of American Idol, it plummeted from its average last season which was expected. This show didn't even do that well behind Idol and it would be a miracle if it saw a third season. NBC had a surprisingly decent night from its newsmagazines as Dateline did well from 8-10pm and the new timeslot for Rock Center gave it better numbers than it was getting on Thursday.

Finally on ABC, Last Man Standing benefited from less competition in the hour on CBS as it was up four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. It swings up and down but I think it'll get a third season easily. At 8:30pm, Malibu Country was up a tenth in viewers and the demo but the gap seems to be widening between Last Man and this show. At 9pm, Shark Tank was again the top performer of the night as it was down six tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. Finally at 10pm, 20/20 was down a tenth in viewers and two tenths in the demo and only managed to tie Rock Center in the demo.
