The renewals just keep on coming, but this time it's a blockbuster one. The hit CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory was renewed not just for next year but for two more after that. The show was renewed through the 2013-2014 season, which will be the show's seventh season. Big Bang made a successful move this fall from a cozy Monday 9:30pm slot to Thursdays at 8pm and it has given CBS a sitcom presence on Thursday for the first time in decades. Through 12 episodes this season, it has averaged an impressive 13.1 million viewers and a 4.3 in the demo. Some might see this move as reaching too far in hoping the show will still be a hit but keep in mind that it's still a relatively young show and going to a seventh season at least was almost a sure bet anyway.
The Big Bang Theory joins Two and a Half Men as the only CBS shows officially renewed for next year though many more are sure things. CBS has some tough decisions to make though as even their weakest performers would be likely renewals on the other networks. Maybe next fall will be the year they finally try programming on Saturday again? Either way, shows like The Defenders and $#*! My Dad Says appear to be on the shakiest ground while CSI: NY, CSI: Miami, and Rules of Engagement are bubble shows at this point.
