FOX has announced that The Simpsons is renewed for next fall, which will be the show's unbelievable 23rd season on the air. A long-time staple of Sunday nights on FOX and the cornerstone of its animation lineup, The Simpsons has become a pop culture icon since its debut in 1989. One of FOX's first broadcast hits, the longest running scripted primetime show will have amassed 515 episodes by Spring 2012. Through four episodes this season, it is averaging 7.8 million viewers and a good 3.9 in the demo. It also has been a syndication hit for over a decade. Often because of the process to make an animated series, they are given early renewals.
The Simpsons joins three other series that have already been renewed for next season: FOX's Glee and The Cleveland Show and CBS's Two and a Half Men which were all announced before this season began. Of course there are many more that are sure thing renewals but as of now, these four series are the only official renewals.
