ABC had good and bad news on Monday night. The good news was of course Dancing with the Stars, which was up three million viewers and nearly a full demo point for its final performances night. The viewers is a season high but the demo couldn't match the season premiere's 5.1 demo. It should see huge results for its finale tonight. The bad news was for knock-off show Skating with the Stars which had decent overall numbers, but that doesn't tell the true story which is it dropped tremendously each half hour. It should have a rough go of it when it takes Dancing's 8pm slot next week.

CBS had a great night for its regular lineup even against the mighty Dancing. At 8pm, How I Met Your Mother was down just two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo while Rules of Engagement was up a tenth in viewers and even in the demo. These are good holds against tougher competition. Two and a Half Men was up a tenth in viewers and even in the demo while new sitcom Mike & Molly had great results as it was up seven tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo, hitting series highs in both categories. This show is flourishing without the Dancing competition. Finally, Hawaii Five-0 benefited from no Castle competition as it was up a whopping two million viewers and half a demo point, hitting its best numbers in weeks. Overall, these were great results for the eye network.

The news was not as good over at NBC which had another low-rated night. Chuck was down six tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo, hitting season lows. Why NBC keeps this show in this slot (or on the air at all) is anyone's guess. The Event was down four tenths in viewers but even in the demo. The total viewers is a series low but the demo remained a 1.7 for the third week in a row. Finally, Chase also benefited from no Castle lead-in as it was up seven tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo to post its best numbers in awhile, though they are still low. It was actually the best performer in terms of total viewers of NBC's night. Next week is the last week for this lineup as is.

FOX was down in both hours from last week. House was down a rough 1.6 million viewers and six tenths in the demo, hitting season lows in both categories. It clearly was hurt by Dancing more than the CBS comedies were. Lie to Me was down three tenths in total viewers and two tenths in the demo, but showed better retention out of House than last week.

EPISODE GUIDES: That 70s Show Season Seven

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Seven of  That 70s Show ! THAT 70s SHOW: SEASON SEVEN 2004-2005 25 episodes The seventh season of  That 70s Show  is the final season with Topher Grace as a series regular and also the final full season for Ashton Kutcher. Despite still having both of those cast member, the show finds itself flailing especially with Topher Grace's Eric, who is stuck in a terrible arc for most of the season. The show also brings many characters back at one point or another but everything just feels tired. This season actually graded out the worst for me. Even worse than the often maligned final season (more on that next week). Every title this season is named for a Rolling Stones song. Starring Topher Grace as Eric Forman  (25 episodes) Mila Kunis as Jackie Burkhart  (25 episodes) Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso  (25 episodes) Danny Masterson as Steven Hyde  (25 e...

EPISODE GUIDES: Rhoda Season Five

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Five (the final season) of  Rhoda ! RHODA: SEASON FIVE 1978 13 episodes Rhoda' s final season was a truncated one as the show was cancelled in December 1978 after only 13 episodes had been produced (and only nine had aired). This feels like a continuation from season four in many ways except with the ill-advised split between Ida and Martin (more on that below). While  Rhoda  has an occasional good moment and even a couple decent episodes, it is a show that seems so wildly different from season one and not in a good way.  Rhoda  could never figure out what it fully wanted to be and only made it four and a half seasons as a result. Starring Valerie Harper as Rhoda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Julie Kavner as Brenda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Ray Buktenica as Benny Goodwin  (11 episodes) Kenneth McMillan as Jack Doyle  (9 episodes) Nancy Wa...

Mar Apr May NBC was the powerhouse on Thursday nights but ABC still gave it the old college try in the Fall of 1995 with a trio of new dramas that they hoped would help them cut into the Peacock's dominance. Headlining their night was Murder One , a high profile new show from Steven Bochco that received much of the network's attention before the season started. The series focused on one murder case for an entire season, whi...
