AIMEE LOU WOOD as Chelsea in The White Lotus (HBO)
And the Winner Is...
PARKER POSEY
The White Lotus (HBO)
As soon as I heard Parker Posey was joining the third season of The White Lotus, I was excited. Pairing Posey's delivery with Mike White's writing felt like a match made in heaven. I wasn't totally sold at first but as the season continued, it proved to be everything I hoped it would be. Posey took up the mantle for the departed Jennifer Coolidge and provided a lot of the humor for the third season. Her very distinct North Carolina accent and her typical uncanny reading of lines was just perfect. I've seen some skepticism of her Emmy chances because she never gets a serious moment like many of her castmates, but I don't think she needed to. She was exactly the character she needed to be for the season and Posey is such a unique actress who was made for a role like this.
Thoughts on the Rest of the Nominees:
Like every year that The White Lotus is in the mix, there's a whole lot of its Supporting Actresses making up the category. Natasha Rothwell returned to the show and had a really interesting arc, going from the most sympathetic character in the first season to a more complicated character. Aimee Lou Wood was a breakout character from the season and probably took the mantle as the most sympathetic character. Carrie Coon had a famously great monologue in the finale but was great throughout (along with her friends, played by Leslie Bibb and Michelle Monaghan, who would have made it with less competition). Among non-White Lotus actresses, Jenny Slate was such a delight in Dying For Sex as both comic relief and the best friend you could imagine. And Jacki Weaver was a character that was sometimes sympathetic and sometimes really, really frustrating on Clipped.
