On Thursday night, NBC got its mojo back with their live musicals as The Wiz Live! was a full demo point over last year's Peter Pan Live! With a big ratings improvement and much more critical success than the first two live musicals, this performance ensures that the NBC live musical holiday tradition will continue next year. Even with the impressive numbers for The Wiz, it was still beaten by a special edition of Thursday Night Football. The Packers-Lions game was below most of the games on Thursday earlier this season. On ABC, three Christmas specials were pretty ignored opposite The Wiz and Thursday Night Football. CMA Country Christmas may move back to Monday next year where it always did better than this.
