CBS announced that they have renewed the long running drama CSI for a 14th season. The renewal comes on the heels of series star Ted Danson signing on for another year. CSI has endured several changes in the past several years including the departures of William Petersen then Laurence Fishburne then Marg Helgenberger. It also endured a timeslot change to Wednesday two years ago but that has paid off as the 10pm Wednesday slot is less pressure than Thursday 9pm. This year, it has had some real strong ratings outings before getting bogged down in a duel with Chicago Fire in the Wednesday 10pm slot.
CSI joins How I Met Your Mother and NCIS as the only official renewals for next year. With the cancellation of CSI: Miami last season and the likely cancellation of CSI: NY this year, it looks like the mothership will be the only CSI on the air for the first time since 2002-03. The show has been a long time success story for CBS but I have to think it only has a few more years at most in it. Still, it definitely deserves this renewal.
