As is usually the case, CBS has been very quiet in the week leading up to Upfronts. But they did make a few moves including the renewal of Rules of Engagement and the announcement of Ashton Kutcher joining Two and a Half Men. They have also picked up two pilots so far (post coming next).
Rules of Engagement has been a utility player for CBS for many years and was just given a sixth season order. Despite being its fifth season, this year is the first year that Rules has aired for an entire year as it was always a midseason plug-in, etc. But now it will come back again, though will it be on the fall schedule? It did fair enough on Monday nights and then was moved to Thursdays after The Big Bang Theory. While it hasn't done great, it has been strong enough to be on the map against the second half hour of the American Idol results show. This season, it has averaged 8.6 million viewers and a 2.9 in the demo. Admittedly I don't watch the show but I get the feeling that down the road, we'll be asking "did that show really run that long?"
