EMMY AWARDS 2026: Outstanding Technical Design of a Drama Series

Today's award is Outstanding Technical Design of a Drama Series!

Past Awards in This Category: 2025   2024   2023   2022   2021   2020

This year's nominees are...

THE BEAR (FX/Hulu)
EUPHORIA (HBO)
THE LOWDOWN (FX)
THE MADISON (Paramount+)
THE PITT (HBO Max)
PLURIBUS (Apple TV)
TASK (HBO)

And the Winner Is...
PLURIBUS
Apple TV
Pluribus was such a unique show and that included its technical style. There were parts of it that had the trappings of a post-apocalyptic drama but it also was a sunnier and in some ways even eerier version of that because of the premise of the show. The show was very distinctly set in Vince Gilligan's beloved New Mexico and used that location to its advantage with the wide open spaces and of course the cul-de-sac. There was also some incredible technical work from the hive whenever they were doing something in concert with each other (such as leaving when they needed space from Carol). It was a show with a very unique vision and it had the technical flair to match it.

Thoughts on the Rest of the Nominees:
First of all, yes, I am considering both The Bear and The Lowdown as Dramas despite what the Emmys say. The Lowdown had a great look to match its style while The Bear continues to have a lot of visual style. Euphoria, a winner in this category way back in 2020, has always been a technical marvel and even in its very messy third season, it still had some absolutely stunning set pieces and camera shots. The Madison is perhaps the best showcase ever for the beautiful American West with absolutely stunning visuals. Task had a very distinct setting and the penultimate episode had an extended scene through the woods that was a technical marvel. Finally, The Pitt may not be as flashy as some others on this list but might be the most technically complicated of all of these with all its moving parts.
