BENJAMONSTER AWARDS 2026: Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Today's award is Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series!
This year's nominees are...
CARMEN CHRISTOPHER as Rick Santana in English Teacher (FX)
PAUL W. DOWNS as Jimmy LuSaque Jr. in Hacks (HBO Max)
HARRISON FORD as Paul Rhoades in Shrinking (Apple TV)
TED MCGINLEY as Derek Bishop in Shrinking (Apple TV)
NICK OFFERMAN as Jinx Millet in Margo's Got Money Troubles (Apple TV)
MICHAEL URIE as Brian Lorenzo in Shrinking (Apple TV)
TYLER JAMES WILLIAMS as Gregory Eddie in Abbott Elementary (ABC)
And the Winner Is...
TED MCGINLEY
Shrinking (Apple TV)
If Jessica Williams is the Shrinking's heart then Ted McGinley might be the show's secret weapon. In a role that continues to grow, McGinley has effectively shed his reputation as a show killer in the best role of his career. McGinley is great at bringing humor to the show - his episode where he was incredibly high was one of the best of the third season. But he also proved this season, he can carry a dramatic storyline with Derek's near-death experience. What I really love about his character is just what a genuinely good person he is. He's not perfect and he makes a lot of mistakes but no one can question just how much he cares about his friends and family. I used to have a negative feeling about McGinley (he was terrible in Happy Days) but this is a great career renaissance for him that has completely changed my perception.
Thoughts on the Rest of the Nominees:
There are five returning actors in this category including McGinley. That also includes his co-stars, Michael Urie and last year's winner Harrison Ford. It was hard not to give it to Ford again who had a brilliant season including singing the "Indiana Jones" theme and delivering a great monologe in the finale. Urie continues to be great comedic relief on the show. Other returnees are Tyler James Williams, who had a lot of big storylines (and handled them well) in the fifth season of Abbott Elementary and Paul W. Downs, who has always brought a great energy to Hacks. The new contenders are Nick Offerman, who was perfect as the troubled wrestler dad with a heart of gold on Margo's Got Money Troubles and Carmen Christopher, who had a much bigger role in the second (and final) season of English Teacher and was the funniest character.
Tomorrow: Outstanding Supporting Actress of a Limited/Anthology Series!
