FOX announced today that Bones has been renewed for a final, 12 episode season in 2016-17. The veteran drama premiered in 2005 and has been a solid utility player for FOX airing every weekday on the schedule at various times. It has always been capable in any slot its been in, but has waned in recent years and has been a part of tense contract issues with stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel. The show will get a chance to have a proper farewell and will have aired 246 episodes when all is said and done. For this season, it will return to the FOX lineup on Thursdays in April.
Bones joins Bob's Burgers, Empire, Scream Queens, and The Simpsons on the renewal list for next year. Sure to join is Family Guy, Gotham, Hell's Kitchen, New Girl, probably Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The X-Files in some capacity. On the bubble are Grandfathered, The Last Man on Earth, Lucifer, and Rosewood while it's not looking good for Bordertown, Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life, The Grinder, Second Chance, and Sleepy Hollow.
