RENEWAL ALERT: NCIS

CBS announced today that it struck a deal with star Mark Harmon and will renew NCIS for two more seasons, taking it through its 15th season in 2017-2018. This has been TV's most watched drama for many years and its renewal was never in doubt as it remains one of the few shows regularly posting over 10 million viewers in Live+Same Day ratings. It remains a big draw for the older crowd and has two successful spinoffs, NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS: Los Angeles . It will air its 300th episode in a couple weeks. NCIS joins The Big Bang Theory as the only renewals for next season so far on CBS. Very likely to join them are the other two NCIS shows, Supergirl, Scorpion, Survivor, Criminal Minds, Mom, Life in Pieces, The Amazing Race, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods, 60 Minutes , Madam Secretary, and 2 Broke Girls. On the bubble is Limitless and it's not looking good for Code Black. This is the announced final season for The Good Wife and Mike & Molly .

RENEWAL ALERT: Bones

FOX announced today that Bones has been renewed for a final, 12 episode season in 2016-17. The veteran drama premiered in 2005 and has been a solid utility player for FOX airing every weekday on the schedule at various times. It has always been capable in any slot its been in, but has waned in recent years and has been a part of tense contract issues with stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel. The show will get a chance to have a proper farewell and will have aired 246 episodes when all is said and done. For this season, it will return to the FOX lineup on Thursdays in April. Bones joins Bob's Burgers, Empire, Scream Queens, and The Simpsons on the renewal list for next year. Sure to join is Family Guy, Gotham, Hell's Kitchen, New Girl, probably Brooklyn Nine-Nine,  and The X-Files in some capacity. On the bubble are Grandfathered, The Last Man on Earth, Lucifer, and Rosewood while it's not looking good for Bordertown, Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life, Th...

RENEWAL ALERT: Superstore

After its solid first season came to an end on Monday night, NBC did the inevitable and renewed Superstore for a second season. The workplace comedy got a solid preview after The Voice in late fall and surprised everyone by premiering in January to a 1.8 demo in the very difficult Monday 8pm slot. It ended up dropping down from there but remained easily ahead of its companion sitcom, Telenovela, and The Biggest Loser , which aired later in the night. It had to completely self-start and it did so in an era where NBC has had a huge amount of difficulty launching comedies. Coupled with decent reviews, there is something to work with for NBC. Superstore joins The Blacklist, Blindspot, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, Law & Order: SVU, and Shades of Blue on NBC's renewal list for next year. The rest of the scripted shows are toss-ups ( The Mysteries of Laura, Grimm, and maybe Undateable ) or as good as dead ( Telenovela, Truth Be Told, The Player, and You, Me, and the Apoc...
