FOX announced today that it has renewed innovative new sitcom The Last Man on Earth for a second season, consisting of 13 episodes. The Will Forte sitcom about the last surviving people on Earth after a disease wipes out everyone was successful in its marketing and launched with a surprising 2.4 demo in early March. Though it has dropped since then, it has solid DVR ratings and critical buzz. I didn't think this show would do much of anything, I greatly underestimated its potential so this has been a surprise for me.
FOX has been slowly announcing renewals for its shows. Shows not renewed yet are American Idol, Backstrom, Bones, Family Guy, The Following, Hell's Kitchen, The Mindy Project, Weird Loners, and World's Funniest Fails. Of those shows, sure renewals are Bones (if they can get the leads to re-sign), Idol, Family Guy, and Hell's Kitchen. On the bubble are Mindy, World's Funniest Fails, and The Following. Backstrom and Weird Loners are as good as gone.
