In a surprising announcement, NBC boss Robert Greenblatt announced the renewal of Parks and Recreation for a seventh season at the NBC Winter TCA presentation. Parks, which recently celebrated its 100th episode, has been a very low-rated show throughout its run and that's no difference this year. However, it has been the highest rated show in the terrible Thursday comedy block that includes freshman bombs Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show. In recent weeks, it has shown a little more life when paired with its old partner, Community.
Parks and Recreation joins The Blacklist as the only official renewals for next season on NBC. Slam dunk renewals include The Biggest Loser, Chicago Fire, Dateline NBC, Law & Order: SVU, and The Voice. Likely to join them is Grimm. Parenthood, Community, and Revolution are on the bubble while it's too early to tell with Chicago PD. Likely cancellations include Sean, Fox, and Dracula. NBC has a lot of midseason shows coming after the Olympics so that could impact these bubble shows.
