Two new series premiered on Tuesday night and the results were quite different. CBS got good news from Intelligence. But first, NCIS was up 1.1 million viewers and a tenth in the demo. The viewership total was a season high for NCIS which continues to be as strong as ever. CBS wisely used its most powerful drama lead-in for its new show as Intelligence premiered to strong numbers. The viewer total was the highest for any new show this season while the demo was a respectable 2.4. Now the test comes on Monday where it must face The Blacklist and Castle with a lower lead-in. But still, this is a good start. At 10pm, Person of Interest was down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo.

The news was not nearly as good for ABC and their new show. But first on the alphabet network, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was up half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 9pm, The Goldbergs was up half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo for its best numbers since November 12. More importantly for Goldbergs is it beat New Girl head to head for the first time since the second week of the season. At 9:30pm, Trophy Wife was up three tenths in viewers but down a tenth in the demo despite the lead-in being up. The worst news came at 10pm where Killer Women was DOA with a measly 4.0 million and 0.9 demo. It was well below the 1.3 demo that Lucky 7 premiered to in September and that show got yanked after two weeks. Also if you don't count ABC's own limited series The Assets last week then Women ties NBC's Do No Harm from last January for the lowest rated in-season premiere ever. I wonder if ABC will stick with this show for eight weeks, it seems hard to believe they will.

NBC had its first new Tuesday without The Voice. A two hour edition of The Biggest Loser was down 1.5 million viewers and three tenths in the demo. The news was better for Chicago Fire. Though it was down 2.3 million viewers, it was only down two tenths in the demo with a lead-in that was 1.4 demo points lower. Consider this a win for Fire as it has its own solid audience. Over on FOX, Dads was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. It was actually the top FOX show in terms of total viewers. Brooklyn Nine-Nine was down three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. New Girl had a horrible night as it fell three tenths in viewers and the demo for a new series low. This show is starting to fall apart as it was behind the 8pm comedies in viewers and just a tenth ahead of them in the demo. At 9:30pm, The Mindy Project was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo.

EPISODE GUIDES: Rhoda Season Five

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Five (the final season) of  Rhoda ! RHODA: SEASON FIVE 1978 13 episodes Rhoda' s final season was a truncated one as the show was cancelled in December 1978 after only 13 episodes had been produced (and only nine had aired). This feels like a continuation from season four in many ways except with the ill-advised split between Ida and Martin (more on that below). While  Rhoda  has an occasional good moment and even a couple decent episodes, it is a show that seems so wildly different from season one and not in a good way.  Rhoda  could never figure out what it fully wanted to be and only made it four and a half seasons as a result. Starring Valerie Harper as Rhoda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Julie Kavner as Brenda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Ray Buktenica as Benny Goodwin  (11 episodes) Kenneth McMillan as Jack Doyle  (9 episodes) Nancy Wa...

EPISODE GUIDES: That 70s Show Season Seven

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Seven of  That 70s Show ! THAT 70s SHOW: SEASON SEVEN 2004-2005 25 episodes The seventh season of  That 70s Show  is the final season with Topher Grace as a series regular and also the final full season for Ashton Kutcher. Despite still having both of those cast member, the show finds itself flailing especially with Topher Grace's Eric, who is stuck in a terrible arc for most of the season. The show also brings many characters back at one point or another but everything just feels tired. This season actually graded out the worst for me. Even worse than the often maligned final season (more on that next week). Every title this season is named for a Rolling Stones song. Starring Topher Grace as Eric Forman  (25 episodes) Mila Kunis as Jackie Burkhart  (25 episodes) Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso  (25 episodes) Danny Masterson as Steven Hyde  (25 e...

SCHEDULES OF THE PAST: 1995-1996 Thursdays

On Tuesdays, I take a look at schedules from yesteryear. Here's a look at Thursdays in the 1995-96 season! ABC 8:00 8:30 9:00 10:00 Sep Charlie Grace The Monroes Various Programs Oct Murder One Nov Various Programs Dec Various Programs Thursday Night Movie Jan Feb World’s Funniest Videos Before They Were Stars! Mar Apr May NBC was the powerhouse on Thursday nights but ABC still gave it the old college try in the Fall of 1995 with a trio of new dramas that they hoped would help them cut into the Peacock's dominance. Headlining their night was Murder One , a high profile new show from Steven Bochco that received much of the network's attention before the season started. The series focused on one murder case for an entire season, whi...
