In an abrupt move today, NBC halted production on Sean Saves the World with four episodes left to film, effectively cancelling the series. There are two complete unaired episodes that will reportedly air after the Olympics but the other four will not be made.
Sean Saves the World was part of NBC's overhaul to Thursday night by bringing back former Thursday star from Will & Grace, Sean Hayes. However, the entire lineup was nothing short of a disaster. Welcome to the Family was quickly cancelled, The Michael J. Fox Show probably would have been had it not been for the 22 episode order, and Parks and Recreation saw series lows. NBC stayed patient with Sean and even gave it some stronger lead-ins in late fall with The Voice and SNL specials, but it could not get any footing and things got even worse after Christmas. NBC has not announced a replacement for Sean but midseason comedy Undateable still has not gotten a premiere date.
Sean joins Family and Ironside as the only cancellations for NBC's season. Other likely cancellations include Dracula, The Michael J. Fox Show, and maybe Revolution. NBC still has a lot to premiere after the Olympics: dramas Believe and Crisis and comedies About a Boy and Growing Up Fisher.
