On Thanksgiving night, FOX was all new but the results were pretty horrible even for Thanksgiving. The X Factor was down 1.7 million viewers and half a demo point for a series low. Glee was down 1.3 million viewers and half a demo point, also hitting a series low. I know it was Thanksgiving and people may not have known it was new, etc. But still - a 0.9 demo? Yikes. A Steelers-Ravens matchup did well for NBC but it wasn't one of their bigger draws as far as NFL games go. Elsewhere, ABC saw decent numbers from A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving but not so much for Lady Gaga's special with the Muppets. CBS aired a mini The Crazy Ones marathon which did OK in the early part of the night thanks to a late NFL game.

Thanksgiving Eve was quiet as usual with ABC in repeats and NBC airing specials. CBS had its regular lineup and it held up pretty well all things considered. Survivor was down 1.4 million viewers and three tenths in the demo for a season low. Criminal Minds was down 1.3 million viewers and four tenths in the demo and CSI was down three tenths in viewers and just a tenth in the demo as it held up the best. These shows are better to run on Thanksgiving Eve than others because they aren't as big draws for the younger crowd that goes out on one of the biggest party nights of the year. The X Factor did not hold up nearly as well as it was down six tenths in viewers and half a demo point to a low 1.2. Time to cancel this show, FOX. An SNL Thanksgiving special for NBC did pretty well.

Tuesday night had the addition of Dancing and Rudolph to the night. ABC had the 17th edition finale of Dancing with the Stars on but first up at 8pm was Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which was up 2.8 million viewers and two tenths in the demo. The viewer total is the best since the series premiere while the demo is the best in over a month. The huge jump in total viewers seems to suggest there is more crossover audience with NCIS, which was not on, than we may have thought. At 9pm, the season finale of Dancing with the Stars was a big improvement for the time period but down big from last fall's 3.0 demo and even last spring's 2.7 demo for the finales. Of course it hasn't aired on Tuesdays all season so that may play a factor too but this show continues to be on the decline.
CBS started with the classic holiday special Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, which was up slightly from last year's presentation. It was on par with the NCIS demo but skewed way younger. At 9pm, NCIS: Los Angeles was down 2.7 million viewers but just a tenth in the demo. At 10pm, Person of Interest was down four tenths in viewers but up two tenths in the demo for its best demo in over a month. Los Angeles and Interest held up well without the NCIS lead-in. On NBC, The Biggest Loser started things off up a tenth in viewers and the demo. The Voice was down 1.3 million viewers and two tenths in the demo for a season low. At 10pm, Chicago Fire was down six tenths in viewers but up two tenths in the demo despite the lead-in being down.
Every single show on ABC, CBS, and NBC was above a 2.0 demo Tuesday night but nothing on FOX was. At 8pm, Dads was even in viewers and down a tenth in the demo. This show is starting to look much weaker than Brooklyn Nine-Nine when it comes to the two struggling freshmen. At 8:30pm, Brooklyn was up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 9pm, New Girl was up two tenths in viewers and the demo as it regained a little bit of ground from the bad series lows it's been hitting. At 9:30pm, The Mindy Project was up three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo.

On Monday night, ABC had the performance finale of Dancing with the Stars. It was up eight tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo but it wasn't even the best result this season and it was down half a demo point from last year's Monday finale. This show is still a decent performer, especially in total viewers, but it continues to be on the decline. At 10pm, Castle was up half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo. Over on NBC, The Voice was up a million viewers but down a tenth in the demo from last week's episode, which aired from 9-11pm. At 10pm, The Blacklist did just fine with a week off as it was up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. It continues to have better and better retention out of The Voice and is really starting to seem like more of a standalone hit than Smash or Revolution. The question is, when will NBC give that a try? Probably not until next season at the earliest.
Over on CBS, How I Met Your Mother started things off down half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo for a season low. It dipped below a 3 demo for the first time this season. At 8:30pm, 2 Broke Girls was down a tenth in viewers but even in the demo. It had its best retention out of Mother yet and actually beat that show in viewers. The return to 8:30pm has been kind to 2 Broke Girls so far. At 9pm, Mike & Molly was up four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for its best numbers since the season premiere a few weeks ago. The biggest surprise came at 9:30pm where Mom was up six tenths in viewers and an impressive four tenths in the demo for its best numbers in over a month. This is the second time Mom has randomly popped up in the ratings but it's a good sign for the freshman show which was steadily declining. At 10pm, Hostages was up 1.1 million viewers and a tenth in the demo.
FOX arguably had the worst night of the broadcast nets. At 8pm, the second Monday airing of Almost Human was down seven tenths in viewers and four tenths in the demo. This is a little more steep than it should have been considering it was the second episode last Monday, not the pilot which aired on a Sunday. A 1.9 demo ties the lowest number Bones got in this slot this season. It would maybe be OK if it was done dropping but something tells me it's not. The biggest problem is it seems to be negatively affecting Sleepy Hollow as that show was down half a million viewers and three tenths in the demo for a series low? Will FOX admit the Bones move was a mistake and bring it back to Mondays before Sleepy Hollow's season ends.

Sunday night had a nice uptick for the American Music Awards. It was well above the 2012 numbers of 9.5 million/3.4 demo. It was also up slightly from the 4.3 demo in 2011 and 2010. This is good because last year's numbers were a little bit troubling and it bodes well for award shows to come. The hyped Manning/Brady showdown on Sunday Night Football did very well but actually slightly below last week as the AMAs may have had something to do with that. FOX had an NFL overrun to help their night. The Simpsons was up a big 1.2 demo points from last week's 9pm episode. Bob's Burgers was up four tenths in the demo from its last airing but way down from its lead-in. Family Guy was even from last week while American Dad! was up three tenths in the demo from its last airing.
CBS was left in the dust with nothing topping a 1.6 demo. At 7pm, 60 Minutes was down six tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 8pm, The Amazing Race was down nine tenths in viewers and a rough four tenths in the demo for a new series low. There must be a fair amount of crossover between Amazing Race and AMA fans. At 9pm, The Good Wife was even in viewers but down a tenth in the demo. The hyped Red John episode of The Mentalist was up 1.2 million viewers and two tenths in the demo for its best numbers since the season premiere. Still if a 1.6 demo is all it can muster for a big episode, that's a sign that viewers are pretty checked out with this show.

Over on CBS, a clip show of Undercover Boss was understandably down from last week. At 9pm, Hawaii Five-0 was even in viewers and down a tenth in the demo. Over on ABC, Last Man Standing was dead even with last week while The Neighbors was down a tenth in viewers and up a tenth in the demo. GOOD WEEK/BAD WEEK: November 23, 2013
GOOD WEEK: CBS
Through Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, not one CBS show is down week to week except the dead show walking Hostages. How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, Mom, NCIS, Person of Interest, Survivor, and Two and a Half Men were even with last week while NCIS: Los Angeles, Criminal Minds, CSI, The Big Bang Theory, The Millers, The Crazy Ones, and Elementary were up. That's a rare feat in an era where at least a couple shows seem to tank every week. The new normal is slightly dropping so staying even or going up nearly across the board is definitely a win for the Eye Network.
BAD WEEK: FOX FRIDAY
There were many eyebrows raised when FOX announced they were moving the reliable Bones to Friday to pair it with comedy Raising Hope. Even more eyebrows were raised when FOX followed through with the plan despite the successful pairing of Bones with the new Sleepy Hollow on Monday while The X Factor and Glee were tanking on Thursday. But FOX went through with the plan to make room for Almost Human on Mondays and the results were disastrous after one week. Bones lost nearly half its audience from Monday while Raising Hope premiered to DOA numbers. FOX announced midseason plans that keep things in place but if Almost Human slips, I can't imagine FOX not bringing it back to Mondays. At the very least, it should have been Glee or The X Factor results on Fridays.

On Thursday night, CBS started with its usual bang. The Big Bang Theory was up six tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo for its best numbers since the season premiere. This is the time of year where Big Bang starts getting bigger so it wouldn't surprise me to see that happen again. At 8:30pm, The Millers was up seven tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for its best numbers in a month. Retention is still terrible but the raw numbers going up is a good sign. At 9pm, The Crazy Ones was even in viewers and up a tenth in the demo. Two and a Half Men was the only CBS show to not be up week to week as it was dead even with last week. At 10pm, Elementary was up seven tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. Over on ABC, every show was even in the demo from last week. In terms of total viewers Once Upon a Time in Wonderland was down two tenths, Grey's Anatomy was even, and Scandal was down a tenth.
It was another rough Thursday for NBC and FOX. On NBC, Parks and Recreation started things off down two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo to a new series low. Sadly, I think this show's time is up and this will be its final season. At 9pm, Sean Saves the World was up four tenths in viewers and even in the demo while The Michael J. Fox Show was up four tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 10pm, Parenthood was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo. At a 1.2 demo, Parenthood was two tenths better than anything else on the network. On FOX, The X Factor was up three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. At 9pm, Glee was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo.

CBS had a good night on Wednesday with all three shows performing well. At 8pm, Survivor was up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 9pm, Criminal Minds was up eight tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo for its best numbers since the season premiere. At 10pm, CSI was up seven tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for its best numbers in nearly a month. NBC started with the fall finale of Revolution and it was up two tenths in viewers but down a tenth in the demo. A winter hiatus probably isn't going to help this show, which is already on shaky ground. At 9pm, Law & Order: SVU was down two tenths in viewers and even in the demo. Over on ABC, The Middle started things off down four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 8:30pm, Back in the Game was down four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo to a series low. This show may not be getting worse numbers than the other freshman sitcoms on Tuesday but its earning its cancellation stripes by being the weak link in the sitcom block. At 9pm, Modern Family was down six tenths in viewers and a rough four tenths in the demo for a season low. It usually doesn't dip down like this until the spring. At 9:30pm, Super Fun Night was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. ABC announced that Suburgatory will take over for Back in the Game in January and Mixology will replace Super Fun Night at the end of February. At 10pm, Nashville was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo as its regained a little bit of ground in the last couple weeks. Finally on FOX, The X Factor was down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo.

On Tuesday night, a David Blaine special on ABC elevated them and hurt the competition. But first at 8pm, a Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that was a crossover with the new Thor movie helped the series rise for the first time ever. It was up two tenths in viewers and the demo. At 9pm, The Goldbergs was down a tenth in viewers and the demo, once again proving it has a completely different audience than its lead-in. The David Blaine special at 10pm was a huge improvement for the 9:30-11pm slot than anything ABC has aired there all season. Everything was close to normal levels for CBS. At 8pm, NCIS was up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 9pm, NCIS: Los Angeles was up a tenth in viewers and the demo. At 10pm, Person of Interest was down three tenths in viewers but even in the demo.
Over on NBC, The Biggest Loser started things off up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 9pm, The Voice was up a tenth in viewers but down two tenths in the demo for a Tuesday low. At 10pm, Chicago Fire was down two tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo. It may have been hurt by the lead-in being down and the competing David Blaine special but it also doesn't seem to really be using The Voice lead-in as well as it could be. On FOX, the 8pm hour was up as Dads was even in viewers and up a tenth in the demo while Brooklyn Nine-Nine was up a tenth in viewers and the demo. At 9pm, New Girl was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo. It's barely stronger than the 8pm hour and it was edged in total viewers by Brooklyn. At 9:30pm, The Mindy Project was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo to a terrible series low. FOX announced that Mindy will have a spring hiatus and Brooklyn will move to 9:30pm when Glee returns to Tuesdays in February.

On Monday night, Almost Human settled into its regular timeslot. While it was down big from Sunday, as expected, it did self start pretty well at 8pm. It will be interesting to see what kind of drop it takes next week and then it will be more apparent what kind of player this is in the long term. At 9pm, Sleepy Hollow was up a tenth in viewers but down a tenth in the demo as it didn't seem to mind a different lead-in. On NBC, a recap show of The Voice did well at 8pm, probably because some people were tuning in ready for it to be a new episode. At 9pm, the actual episode of The Voice was down 1.5 million viewers and three tenths in the demo as it may have been hurt by airing into the 10pm hour.
CBS was very close to last week across the board. At 8pm, How I Met Your Mother was dead even with last week while 2 Broke Girls was down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 9pm, Mike & Molly was down six tenths in viewers but even in the demo while Mom was down two tenths in viewers and even in the demo. So basically it was the same for the comedies as last week. At 10pm, Hostages was even in viewers but down another tenth in the demo to a new series low. Over on ABC, Dancing with the Stars was up 1.2 million viewers and three tenths in the demo as it may have benefited from not competing with a regular episode of The Voice for half the time. At 10pm, Castle was up eight tenths in viewers but down a tenth in the demo.

Sunday night had a huge football game and the premiere of FOX's Almost Human. FOX had an NFL overrun and The OT but it wasn't mammoth so that made Almost Human's numbers less dynamite. It still premiered to a solid 3.1 demo though it had a big drop during the hour as expected. Still, if the point was sampling, it definitely got more attention than it would have just starting on Monday as originally planned. At 9pm, The Simpsons disappointed in a special time as it was basically even with last week but with a much better lead-in. Family Guy did well at 9:30pm as it was up three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo despite the special time. The Sunday night showdown between two of the NFL's best teams was huge for NBC as Sunday Night Football was way up from the last couple weeks and just a tenth down in the demo from the big Broncos-Colts match a few weeks ago.
Over on ABC, America's Funniest Home Videos was down six tenths in viewers and up a tenth in the demo. At 8pm, Once Upon a Time was even in viewers but down two tenths in the demo to a new series low. Remember when this show was getting a high 3 demo just over a year ago? Things have fallen apart quickly for this show. At 9pm, Revenge rebounded a little bit despite a lower lead-in as it was up three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. At 10pm, Betrayal was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo from its series low last week. ABC released its midseason schedule today and Revenge will slide back to 10pm (like it should) when it returns from its winter hiatus. Resurrection, planned for 10pm, will instead air at 9pm starting on March 9. Betrayal has not been officially cancelled but it will not air any more episodes this season and an official announcement is probably not even necessary because this show is done.
Finally on CBS, 60 Minutes was up nicely in the demo from the last time it didn't have a direct NFL lead-in. At 8pm, The Amazing Race was even in viewers but down two tenths in the demo. The Good Wife was down six tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo. Once again, it proves that it does better when it starts later in the night. Why won't CBS give this show a chance at 10pm with less competition? I think it has more upside than The Mentalist especially with its renewed critical acclaim this year. The Mentalist was up 1.2 million viewers but only even in the demo despite starting 47 minutes earlier. I think of all the CBS shows besides Hostages, The Mentalist is in the most danger.

PILOT REVIEW: Almost Human
ALMOST HUMAN
Starring: Karl Urban, Michael Ealy, Minka Kelly, Mackenzie Crook, Michael Irby, and Lili Taylor
Created by JH Wyman
Written by JH Wyman, Directed by Brad Anderson
Almost Human is set in the dystopian future of 2048 Los Angeles where crime is up 400% and in order to combat the crime, each police office is partnered with a lifelike android. John Kennex (Karl Urban) has been in a coma for over a year following a devastating ambush that killed his human partner. When he awakens and rejoins the police force, he must be with an android but he picks the long dormant Dorian (Michael Ealy) who has more human emotion than some androids. Rounding out the main cast are Minka Kelly, Mackenzie Crook, and Michael Irby as co-workers, and Lili Taylor as Kennex's boss, Captain Sandra Maldonado.
THE GOOD: Almost Human paints a really interesting picture of a futuristic world that seems, in some ways, like it could be possible although 2048 seems awfully soon. They did a good job of using classic crime drama issues but giving it them new twists with the setting, gadgets, etc. An early standout is Michael Ealy as the android partner. After a very brooding and serious start to the episode, Ealy brought some levity to the show and some much needed comedy. He has a good dynamic with Karl Urban's skeptical human partner. The show has the potential to be in the same family as The Blacklist and Person of Interest where they blend the case of the week format with a larger mythology. That would be the best way to go.
THE BAD: Other than Urban and Ealy, I don't think we really got to know any of the other characters. I love Minka Kelly from Friday Night Lights and she was the best part of the short-lived Charlie's Angels reboot, but they didn't seem to really have anything for her character to do here. In fact, the other characters seemed to almost be secondary to the technology. The gadgets and futuristic look is obviously a key element of this show but they need to be careful to not let it be the focus. While Urban is good in the lead role, he did seem to resort to just staring too often. I didn't find myself rooting for him yet.
BOTTOM LINE: Almost Human is the opposite of my type of show, yet I was engrossed enough by the pilot that I'll at least try another episode. I like yet another new twist on a cop drama because it's a tried and true format but needs some updating once in awhile. Also, while interesting, I certainly hope 2048 is not actually the way its depicted!

Friday night had the first night of FOX's new lineup but it was a complete disaster for them. At 8pm, Bones moved over from Mondays and lost a ton of its audience (this past Monday it got 7 million viewers and a 2.0 demo). There is no reason this reliable drama should be airing on Fridays especially with the problems related to The X Factor. The news was even worse at 9pm though where Raising Hope posted miniscule numbers. I guess FOX could return this to Tuesdays but I think this show's time has passed and they should really just ride it out at this point because it'll have enough episodes for syndication at the end of the year. Over on NBC, Dateline NBC started things off up four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. After two straight bad drops, Grimm was up nine tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo as it seems to be leveling off to numbers that were close to last year. At 10pm, Dracula was dead even with last week despite the lead-in rising.
On CBS, Undercover Boss was down six tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 9pm, Hawaii Five-0 was up four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo, posting its best demo since the season premiere. At 10pm, Blue Bloods was up eight tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo, posting its best demo in over a month. Finally on ABC, Last Man Standing was even in viewers and down two tenths in the demo while The Neighbors was down half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo for a series low. The news wasn't so good for Shark Tank either as it was down eight tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo for a season low. Still, the 1.7 demo it posted was the best of a low night for any network. At 10pm, 20/20 was up four tenths in viewers and down a tenth in the demo.

On Thursday night, it was all about The Big Bang Theory as usual. It was up 1.4 million viewers and three tenths in the demo from last week as it is towering above everything else on TV by more than a demo point at this point. At 8:30pm, The Millers was up seven tenths in viewers but even in the demo. It is now at just 50% retention out of The Big Bang Theory which is worse than failed occupants Rob and $*! My Dad Says. I have to think CBS is going to try something else in this slot at some point this season because the retention is getting too glaring to ignore. At 9pm, The Crazy Ones was up six tenths in viewers and even in the demo while Two and a Half Men was up four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At least these two shows seem very compatible with each other, which is surprising given their styles. At 10pm, Elementary was down four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. This show is a big DVR gainer so that helps its case. It's just not as much of an appointment show as its timeslot competition, Scandal.
Over on ABC, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo, not dropping for the first time. Of course it's at a 0.9 demo so that's really a moot point. At 9pm, Grey's Anatomy was down a tenth in viewers and the demo, tying a series low again. At 10pm, Scandal was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. FOX is in bad shape on Thursdays. The X Factor had a little bit of a rebound as it was up 1.5 million viewers and a tenth in the demo. It's barely getting half of what it was getting last year. At 9pm, Glee was up two tenths in viewers and down a tenth in the demo for a series low. I'll say it again, FOX is going to regret renewing this show for two seasons. Also if Bones has trouble on Friday nights, it should flip with the results show of The X Factor. It could certainly do better than a 1.3 demo.
Finally, things continue to get uglier on NBC on Thursdays as no show topped a 1.2 demo. Every time it seems like the basement can't get lower, it does and this is the biggest problem for any network on any night. At 8pm, Parks and Recreation returned after three weeks off to a series low as it was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. At 9pm, Sean Saves the World proved last week's numbers fueled by The Voice were nothing more than a mirage as it fell apart and was down 2 million viewers and half a demo point for a series low. Another series low was reached by The Michael J. Fox Show as it fell a million viewers and a tenth in the demo. This is just getting sad. At 10pm, Parenthood was down a tenth in viewers and the demo. It tied a series low but was the only show to not outright hit a series low. It's also the only show up year to year in the time period (last year was Rock Center in this slot).

On Wednesday night, ABC was all new with its lineup after a week with the CMA Awards. At 8pm, The Middle was up nine tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for its best numbers since the season premiere. This was a good showing for ABC's veteran comedy. At 8:30pm, the cancelled Back in the Game was up four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. It's doing better than the Tuesday comedies and almost as well as Super Fun Night but it was the odd one out. At 9pm, Modern Family was up half a million viewers but down a tenth in the demo from its last airing three weeks ago. At 9:30pm, Super Fun Night was up six tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo from its last airing when it followed a repeat of Modern Family. What is ABC planning when this show's order is up? Suburgatory? Mixology? One of the Tuesday comedies? We'll see. At 10pm, Nashville was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo.
CBS was up across the board from last week. At 8pm, Survivor was up six tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 9pm, Criminal Minds had a major rebound as it was up a big 1.9 million viewers and four tenths in the demo as it got back to where it was before it faced the World Series and CMA Awards. At 10pm, CSI was up 1.4 million viewers and a tenth in the demo. On NBC, Revolution was even in viewers and up a tenth in the demo to its best numbers in over a month. At 9pm, Law & Order: SVU was up half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo. Finally on FOX, The X Factor rallied a little bit as it was up 1.3 million viewers and three tenths in the demo. It got a 2.9 demo this week last year so that's still a pretty ugly showing for the quickly fading show. And yet it's Bones that's heading to Friday?!

On Tuesday night, NBC started things with The Biggest Loser, which was down half a million viewers and a heavy three tenths in the demo, tying a season low. At 9pm, The Voice returned to one hour but it didn't make much of a difference. It was up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 10pm, Chicago Fire returned after two weeks off and it was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo despite its Voice lead-in being down seven tenths from that day. This was a strong return for NBC's sophomore drama. CBS was basically steady from last week or slightly up. NCIS was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo, NCIS: Los Angeles was up a tenth in viewers and even in the demo, and Person of Interest was up eight tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo as it didn't have to face The Voice this week.
ABC saw yet another dive from Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as it fell another half a million viewers and three tenths in the demo. Things are getting pretty bad for this show which continues to drop. It hasn't been able to slow the bleeding and it seems like it's a matter of time before it gets in the 1s for the demo after a 4.7 premiere not even two months ago. Next week is a cross-promotion with the new Thor movie in theaters and they better hope some of the millions of people who have gone to see the movie will tune in. At 9pm, The Goldbergs was up two tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo from the series low. It's official now, this show has a completely different audience than Marvel as it's not following any sort of pattern. It is worth noting that it had its best retention yet. At 9:30pm, Trophy Wife was even in viewers and up a tenth in the demo. Its next new episode will not air until December.
FOX had a pretty rough night as nothing topped a 1.7 demo and everything was down. At 8pm, Dads fell half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo for a series low. Was a 1.2 demo worth a full season renewal? At 8:30pm, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was down half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo as the freshman comedy block had a rough week. At 9pm, New Girl was down two tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo for a series low. This show has really fallen apart since its breakout first season. At 9:30pm, The Mindy Project was down two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. The only saving grace is that all these shows skew quite young.

NBC remained on top on Monday night, but it was also on the upswing, as The Voice was up two tenths in viewers and the demo. That is a good sign for the performance shows as they usually drop at this point. At 10pm, The Blacklist was up four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo from last week's season low. The Blacklist is really proving its mettle. If you look at this week a year ago, The Voice was much stronger with a 4.4 demo while Revolution could only manage a 2.6 demo (59% retention). But The Blacklist is doing better with a lower lead-in as it had 79% retention this week. The Blacklist appears to be more than just a timeslot hit.
Over on CBS, How I Met Your Mother was down six tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo. That might seem like a big drop but last week was abnormally high so it has settled into where it usually is. At 8:30pm, 2 Broke Girls was up a tenth in viewers and the demo. At 9pm, week two of Mike & Molly was down half a million viewers and three tenths in the demo. It's looking like this isn't going to be any better of an anchor than 2 Broke Girls was. At 9:30pm, Mom was down four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo for a series low. It's still having pretty good retention but the raw numbers are slowly getting worse for this show. At 10pm, Hostages was down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. CBS announced the season (and most definitely series) finale will air on January 6 with Intelligence launching sooner than planned. It will ave a sneak preview after NCIS on January 7 and settle into its new slot on January 13.
ABC had bad news as Dancing with the Stars sunk nine tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo for a series low. Dancing had never been below a 2.0 demo before but it fell hard. Having the performances and results on the same night has done nothing to help this tired franchise. Doing one cycle a year might though. At 10pm, Castle was down eight tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. Over on FOX, Bones aired its final Monday episode (for now) and was up four tenths in viewers and even in the demo. It will head to Fridays this week to make room for Almost Human. At 9pm, Sleepy Hollow was down a tenth in viewers and up a tenth in the demo from last week's low. How will it fare with Human as a lead-in instead of the reliable Bones?

Sunday night had a big result for football. Despite being a blowout, the Saints-Cowboys game delivered the best SNF numbers in three weeks. CBS had a football overrun that didn't last as long as last week but led to similar numbers. 60 Minutes was down half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo. The Amazing Race followed and was down three tenths in viewers and up a tenth in the demo. The Good Wife didn't start until 9:47pm but did well once again airing mostly in the 10pm hour. It was up a tenth in viewers and the demo for a season high. This show benefits from the later start time and a lot of recent buzz for its quality episodes. The Mentalist closed out the night down three tenths in viewers but up a tenth in the demo from its last airing two weeks ago, which started at 10pm.
ABC fell across the board. At 7pm, America's Funniest Home Videos was even in viewers and down a tenth in the demo. Once Upon a Time was down nine tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo at 8pm. The news got pretty ugly for Revenge at 9pm as it was down eight tenths in viewers and a big four tenths in the demo for a series low. It's time for ABC to cut its losses with Revenge at the end of this season. A fourth season should not be happening for this show. At 10pm, dead show walking Betrayal was down two tenths in viewers and the demo for a series low. FOX saw season lows across the board for its animated lineup. Next week FOX is airing the Almost Human premiere instead of giving football overrun to the cartoons.

GOOD WEEK/BAD WEEK: November 9, 2013
GOOD WEEK: "THE BLACKLIST"
Oh sure, at first glance it looks like The Blacklist fell below a 3 demo for the first time this week so it wouldn't really qualify as a "good week." But then the news came that last week's episode of The Blacklist added a record number for DVR viewing in Live + 3 Day Ratings. It was up a huge 5.427 million viewers and 1.95 demo points. This show is one of DVR's biggest gainers every week which proves it is far more than a timeslot hit thanks to its lead-in of The Voice. People are watching this show even when they're not watching The Voice and that's a good sign. The same day numbers are going to mean less and less as time goes by so this news shows that The Blacklist is, without question, the biggest new hit of the fall season.
BAD WEEK: "THE X FACTOR"
Two years ago when The X Factor premiered, Simon Cowell said anything less than 20 million viewers would be a disappointment. Well it was a huge disappointment by that standard but it still regularly got over 10 million viewers and a mid-3 in the demo. Then it added Britney Spears and Demi Lovato as judges in a high profile move for season two. Again it disappointed but was still getting 7-9 million viewers and a high 2 in the demo, probably better than FOX could do with anything else in the slot as the American Idol placeholder. But this season, things have fallen apart and it is only getting worse. This week saw the show draw a pitiful 4.5 million viewers and 1.4 demo for its performance show this week. By comparison, the same week got 7.0 million/2.6 demo in 2012 and 10.3 million/3.8 demo in 2011. I know this is a tough slot because of American Idol having the slot in the spring but with the many half-season shows FOX is doing lately, it's time to cut its losses with The X Factor and cancel the show. They can do better and Factor is a reality competition that people don't seem to care about.

It may only be November but Friday night had the season finale of new FOX reality show Masterchef Junior. It was up a tenth in viewers and two tenths in the demo for its best numbers since the premiere. I think this show has done well enough on Friday nights to probably get another season at some point whether it be summer or next fall on Fridays again. Next week, Bones and Raising Hope come to the night. CBS was up across the board. At 8pm, Undercover Boss was up a tenth in viewers and four tenths in the demo as it had a huge jump at the half hour. At 9pm, Hawaii Five-0 was down four tenths in viewers but up a tenth in the demo. At 10pm, Blue Bloods was even in viewers and up a tenth in the demo.
Over on ABC, Last Man Standing was down two tenths in viewers and even in the demo while The Neighbors, with its Shark Tank-themed episode, was dead even with last week. At 9pm, Shark Tank itself was dead even with last week. At 10pm, 20/20 was down 1.6 million viewers and a tenth in the demo. This show fluctuates a lot like most newsmagazines. On NBC, Dateline NBC was up from last week's vampires special but down from its last airing two weeks ago. At 9pm, Grimm was down a tenth in viewers and two tenths in the demo, tying a series low. This is early on for it to be fading which could be a bad sign. At 10pm, week three of Dracula was down another four tenths in viewers and the demo. It has fallen nine tenths in the demo in just two weeks so I don't think it'll go beyond its initial order.

On Thursday night, NBC aired The Voice results at 8pm which was a major improvement over everything in this time period for NBC all season even though it didn't come close to its Monday and Tuesday numbers. The special episode of The Voice helped Sean Saves the World rise nine tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo for its best numbers since the series premiere. This rise was most likely a mirage but NBC showed faith in the show by ordering five additional episodes of Sean on Friday. At 9:30pm, The Michael J. Fox Show didn't benefit at all. It was up two tenths in viewers but down a tenth in the demo for a series low. NBC has a 22 episode order for this show and it's at cancellation levels. My suggestion is to bag it after 13 episodes and make a new pilot with better writing that's a better vehicle for FOX and relaunch it next fall. At 10pm, Parenthood was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo.
On CBS, The Big Bang Theory was down a tenth in viewers and three tenths in the demo from its last new episode two weeks ago. It is a season low but it also had to face The Voice this week. At 8:30pm, The Millers was up seven tenths in viewers and half a demo point from last week when it had to follow a repeat. It was down a tenth in the demo from the last time it followed a new Big Bang. As usual, raw numbers are decent but retention is terrible. At 9pm, The Crazy Ones was down a tenth in viewers and two tenths in the demo. Last week it's drop wasn't horrible when The Millers took a big drop. This week The Millers had a big rise but Crazy didn't rise as much. It looks like it may have a more independent audience. At 9:30pm, Two and a Half Men was down two tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo for a series low. It will certainly fall below a 2.0 demo for the first time ever this season. At 10pm, Elementary was down six tenths in viewers and even in the demo.
Over on ABC, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland was down eight tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for another series low. This show is done but ABC will probably let it ride out its 13 episodes. Three of the four new ABC dramas have now fallen below a 1.0 demo. Yikes. At 9pm, Grey's Anatomy was down two tenths in viewers but up a tenth in the demo. At 10pm, Scandal was down half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo for a season low. This show is of course still a huge draw but it looks like the early episodes were maybe a bit of a mirage with its demo being well over a 3. FOX has a major problem with The X Factor as it was down a huge 2.8 million viewers and eight tenths in the demo from its last Thursday airing for weeks ago. This show was falling apart anyway and the baseball hiatus has completely killed it. The Voice only accounts for a little bit of this horrible number, I think. Glee returned down a mammoth 3.4 million viewers and 1.4 demo points from its Cory Monteith tribute episode but it was down just a tenth in the demo from the episode before that.
