CANCELLATION ALERT: House

Not really a Cancellation Alert, more like an ending alert - but this is still the most appropriate category.

FOX announced today that this will be the final season for the long-running medical drama House. The veteran show has been one of the biggest hits on FOX for years, airing after American Idol for some of them, and ranking as high as #5 for the season in the Nielsen Ratings (2006-2007). Though it has significantly dipped in recent years, it still remains a solid performer for FOX on Monday nights. The show has also received multiple Emmy nominations as has star Hugh Laurie. This season, House has averaged 7.8 million viewers and a 2.8 demo. It will tentatively end its run on May 21 after 177 episodes.

This news bodes well for FOX's pack of freshman dramas including Terra Nova, Alcatraz, The Finder, and Touch. It's very unlikely all of these will be back but one more spot just opened up. Right now, it would seem like Alcatraz and Touch (which only got a preview episode so far) have the best chances but Terra Nova and The Finder still have a chance.
