BENJAMONSTER AWARDS 2025: A Look Ahead

For a sixth annual year, I will be presenting an extended end of season awards show. It will have some similarities to the Emmys in terms of categories and eligibility but will of course be completely based on my preferences and what I have watched.  Here are the rules for eligibility: - Shows had to have aired the majority of its season between June 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025. If it was exactly split as is the case of Poker Face , it will be for this year and not next year. - A show is considered eligible if I watched at least four episodes of it. Many of them I have watched the full season, but four episodes is the cutoff for eligibility. - I am making my own calls for whether an actor/actress fits into a leading or supporting category as well as genre categories (comedy, drama, limited/anthology). That will often align with Emmy categorizations but that is not always the case. For example, I am classifying  The Bear  as a drama and Hannah Einbinder as a Lead Actress...

BENJAMONSTER NEWSLETTER: June 23, 2025

Welcome to my Monday newsletter! This week is a little bit different as I am wrapping up my Emmys Preview with a look at the Big Three races: Comedy Series, Drama Series and Limited Series. I am also continuing my Top 25 Shows Since 2000 with #14. This will be my last weekly newsletter until September but the blog will not be dormant all summer. I will be doing my 5th Annual Benjamonster Awards (my version of the Emmys) with a post every day from June 30-July 31 so check back then! AWARDS CORNER THE EMMY RACES for COMEDY, DRAMA & LIMITED SERIES COMEDY There are eight slots for Comedy Series and it feels like six slots are pretty close to locked. That includes last year's surprise winner Hacks and the series it upset, The Bear . While it does feel like voters are souring a bit on The Bear , I can't imagine it will fall out of the nominations list. It will have to have a really strong rally though to get back in the winners conversation. Perennial nominees Only Murders in the...

BENJAMONSTER NEWSLETTER: June 16, 2025

Welcome to my Monday newsletter! This week, I am looking at my Most Anticipated Summer Shows, the latest episode of Platonic , the Emmy race for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and continuing my Top 25 Shows Since 2000 with #15. WHAT'S NEW MOST ANTICIPATED SUMMER SHOWS There weren't any new shows I watched this week so I'm taking this space to list my Top 5 most anticipated summer shows. Last summer was pretty barren as far as good new shows and this summer doesn't look to be much better. There are a few I'm excited about and maybe a few will surprise but otherwise, it seems like it will be a good chance to catch up on shows I've been wanting to watch. But there are still a few I'm excited about so here are my Top 5 Most Anticipated Summer Shows! 5. The Rainmaker (USA, August 15) USA Network is getting back into the scripted business this summer with The Rainmaker . It's been quite awhile since we've had a John Grisham adaptation of any form but I like...

BENJAMONSTER NEWSLETTER: June 9, 2025

Welcome to my Monday newsletter! This week, I am looking at the Tony Awards and Stick , the latest episodes of Poker Face and Criminal Minds: Evolution , the Emmys race for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and continuing my Top 25 Shows Since 2000 with #16. WHAT'S NEW TONY AWARDS RECAP The Tony Awards were Sunday night and it's one of my favorite nights of the year. It beats all the other awards shows because of the performances that populate the night. I wasn't blown away by any performance this year but it was still fun to see some shows I will be seeing on Broadway this summer. I just don't think there was an epic Tony moment that some years produce outside of Cynthia Erivo at the beginning and end of the telecast. That's ok though. I've seen shows be incredible on the Tonys and then I've been disappointed when I've seen the show and I've been underwhelmed by performances on the Tonys before and then loved the show.

BENJAMONSTER NEWSLETTER: June 2, 2025

Welcome to my Monday newsletter! This week, I am making some Tony Awards predictions plus looking at the finales of Hacks and The Handmaid's Tale , the Emmy race for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and continuing my Top 25 Shows Since 2000 with #17. WHAT'S NEW TONY AWARDS PREDICTIONS I didn't watch anything new this week so I'm going to use this space to make Tony Awards predictions. The 78th Annual Tony Awards air this Sunday with the first awards on Paramount+ and then the main telecast, hosted by Cynthia Erivo, on CBS and Paramount+. I'm also a big Broadway fan in addition to TV but usually only see shows once a year when I go in the summer and see a whole slew of them. So I haven't seen this year's nominated productions (aside from Yellow Face on Great Performances ) yet but I follow awards closely enough to make educated predictions. So here we go: I will only be listing my winner predictions. For a list of nominees,  click here . Best Musical: Mayb...
