THE WEEK AHEAD: February 3-9, 2019

Here's a look at this week on TV!

ABC
ABC has two episodes of The Bachelor this week, a three hour edition on Monday and a two hour episode on Wednesday. They also have two days of political programming with the State of the Union on Tuesday and a Primary Debate on Friday. After all that, they have the Oscars on Sunday. So it's a very unusual week but a lot of these oddities should make for a higher rated week than normal.

MONDAY
8:00 The Bachelor

TUESDAY
8:00 The Conners (Repeat)
8:30 Bless This Mess (Repeat)
9:00 ABC News: State of the Union

WEDNESDAY

SUNDAY

CBS
CBS has the series premiere of Tommy on Thursday night. The Edie Falco drama takes over the timeslot from Evil but I don't think the ratings will be much different. It's a more accessible drama but won't have the acclaim that Evil does. CBS also has the season premiere of MacGyver on Friday night, moving Hawaii Five-0 back to 9pm. This change comes just as Magnum P.I. has started to see some decent ratings for Friday and now will go on hiatus.

10:00 Bull

NBC
NBC has a lot of changes to its Thursday night lineup this week. Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns for its seventh season (second on NBC) will a double episode premiere. Later that same night, the multi-camera comedy Indebted starring Fran Drescher premieres. I think Brooklyn could have an OK start like it did last year (although not as high a start) while Indebted could very easily get DOA ratings.

10:00 Manifest

SUNDAY
7:00 America's Got Talent: The Champions (Repeat)
9:00 Ellen's Game of Games (Repeat)
10:00 Ellen's Game of Games (Repeat)

FOX
Fresh off the Super Bowl, The Masked Singer returns to its Wednesday perch. The Super Bowl ratings don't seem to translate to better ratings in its regular slot but it will still likely do well as the show had a pretty good fall run. It is followed by Lego Masters, which could have a decent premiere thanks to a lot of Super Bowl promotion and a decent lead-in.

MONDAY
8:00 9-1-1: Lone Star
9:00 Prodigal Son

TUESDAY
8:00 Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back
9:00 FOX News: State of the Union

SUNDAY

7:30 Outmatched (Repeat)
8:00 The Simpsons (Repeat)
8:30 Bob's Burgers (Repeat)
9:00 Family Guy (Repeat)
9:30 Family Guy (Repeat)

CW
The CW also has a series premiere on Thursday like CBS and NBC. It is Riverdale offshoot Katy Keene starring Lucy Hale. I wouldn't expect anything above a 0.2 demo for the premiere.

MONDAY
8:00 All American
9:00 Black Lightning

8:00 The Flash
9:00 DC's Legends of Tomorrow

WEDNESDAY
8:00 Riverdale

TV NEWS & THOUGHTS
- CBS has announced premiere dates for the new season of Man with a Plan and the new series Broke. Both comedies will premiere on Thursday, April 2 with the fourth season of Plan airing at 8:30pm and Broke premiering at 9:30pm. Current occupants The Unicorn and Carol's Second Act will have finished their freshman runs by then and are squarely on the bubble for next season.

EPISODE GUIDES: That 70s Show Season Seven

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Seven of  That 70s Show ! THAT 70s SHOW: SEASON SEVEN 2004-2005 25 episodes The seventh season of  That 70s Show  is the final season with Topher Grace as a series regular and also the final full season for Ashton Kutcher. Despite still having both of those cast member, the show finds itself flailing especially with Topher Grace's Eric, who is stuck in a terrible arc for most of the season. The show also brings many characters back at one point or another but everything just feels tired. This season actually graded out the worst for me. Even worse than the often maligned final season (more on that next week). Every title this season is named for a Rolling Stones song. Starring Topher Grace as Eric Forman  (25 episodes) Mila Kunis as Jackie Burkhart  (25 episodes) Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso  (25 episodes) Danny Masterson as Steven Hyde  (25 e...

EPISODE GUIDES: Rhoda Season Five

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Five (the final season) of  Rhoda ! RHODA: SEASON FIVE 1978 13 episodes Rhoda' s final season was a truncated one as the show was cancelled in December 1978 after only 13 episodes had been produced (and only nine had aired). This feels like a continuation from season four in many ways except with the ill-advised split between Ida and Martin (more on that below). While  Rhoda  has an occasional good moment and even a couple decent episodes, it is a show that seems so wildly different from season one and not in a good way.  Rhoda  could never figure out what it fully wanted to be and only made it four and a half seasons as a result. Starring Valerie Harper as Rhoda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Julie Kavner as Brenda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Ray Buktenica as Benny Goodwin  (11 episodes) Kenneth McMillan as Jack Doyle  (9 episodes) Nancy Wa...

SCHEDULES OF THE PAST: 1995-1996 Thursdays

On Tuesdays, I take a look at schedules from yesteryear. Here's a look at Thursdays in the 1995-96 season! ABC 8:00 8:30 9:00 10:00 Sep Charlie Grace The Monroes Various Programs Oct Murder One Nov Various Programs Dec Various Programs Thursday Night Movie Jan Feb World’s Funniest Videos Before They Were Stars! Mar Apr May NBC was the powerhouse on Thursday nights but ABC still gave it the old college try in the Fall of 1995 with a trio of new dramas that they hoped would help them cut into the Peacock's dominance. Headlining their night was Murder One , a high profile new show from Steven Bochco that received much of the network's attention before the season started. The series focused on one murder case for an entire season, whi...
