THE WEEK AHEAD: February 17-23, 2020

Here's a look at this week on TV!

ABC
ABC has an all new week. Friday night has the series finale of Fresh Off the Boat, which is ending after six seasons and 116 episodes. There was a short time where Fresh was arguably my favorite ABC family sitcom, but I felt like it never quite found its voice consistently though it had some great moments. It will be remembered for being TV's first successful sitcom about an Asian American family.

CBS
CBS has a series finale as well this week. Criminal Minds is ending after an incredible 15 seasons and 324 episodes. The procedural drama was never a favorite of critics who chastised it for its glorification of violence, but it was a huge hit with audiences. There was a time where it was one of CBS's top shows and it was a consistently strong performer for much of its run before fading the last couple years. I will readily admit to being a fan of Criminal Minds even though I didn't watch it consistently in the last couple years (though I am watching the final season). I always thought the characters were a cut above the average procedural and there were a lot of cases that were pretty compelling even if, yes, they sometimes were quite creepy and violent.

TV NEWS & THOUGHTS
- ABC has renewed The Good Doctor for a fourth season. The medical drama is not the breakout hit it once was, but it's a solid performer with ABC with strong DVR numbers. This was no surprise.

- NBC has renewed Superstore for a sixth season. The comedy has become an anchor for NBC and is consistently their highest rated comedy (not that that's saying a ton). Superstore joins Brooklyn Nine-Nine as renewals for next year. With The Good Place over and Will & Grace ending and their newbies not doing much, those might be the only returning comedies for NBC.

- NBC announced premiere dates for three unscripted series. A "re-imagined" Little Big Shots with new host Melissa McCarthy will air a preview after the new edition of The Voice on February 24 before settling into its old Sunday 8pm slot. The long delayed third season of The Wall will premiere on March 15 at 7pm while season two of Songland premieres on April 13 at 10pm.
