TV NEWS & THOUGHTS
- ABC unveiled its midseason schedule and there's not much to see. For Life will take over for Emergence on Tuesdays at 10pm starting February 11 but that's the only new show with a premiere date as the other bench newbies, United We Fall and The Baker and the Beauty did not get premiere dates. The biggest news is Grey's Anatomy will be moving back to its old 9pm home starting January 23 and will have its spinoff series, Station 19, as the lead-in. A Million Little Things will slide to 10pm while How to Get Away with Murder will go on hiatus and resume its final season in April. All of those seem like unnecessary moves. Finally, American Idol will premiere on Sunday, February 23.
- ABC has also renewed all its summer game shows: The $100,000 Pyramid, Celebrity Family Feud, To Tell the Truth, Card Sharks, Press Your Luck and Match Game. These join the previously renewed Holy Moley. All these shows are decent performers by summer standards and certainly cheap options for ABC, which has branded itself as the game show network in the summer.
