THE WEEK AHEAD: October 30-November 5, 2017

Here is a look at Week #6!

ABC
ABC has yanked Ten Days in the Valley off the air, the first show pulled this season (more below) so they will double up the Shark Tank airings next Sunday in what will certainly be a ratings improvement for ABC. CBS
CBS has a big week with the debut of their Thursday lineup and their revamped Monday lineup. Thursday should go well but Monday could be rough. Kevin Can Wait will return to 8pm while they made a last minute decision to premiere Superior Donuts at 9pm instead of moving the low rated Me, Myself and I up a half hour. Thursdays brings The Big Bang Theory back to the night while pairing it with Young Sheldon, which was last seen on the first night of the season receiving huge ratings. It will be interested to see how many come back for episode two after being off for over a month. The solid Mom and Life in Pieces pair continues at 9pm while the new Shemar Moore-led reboot of S.W.A.T. is the final fall show to premiere at 10pm that night.

NBC
NBC has its regular lineup. It will be very interesting to see the This is Us numbers as it will be dealing with a lead in from a clip show, Halloween, and Game 6 of the World Series. I imagine a season low is coming and it could be a somewhat brutal hit for a family drama on Halloween night though I'm sure it will recover if that does happen.

8:00 The Voice
10:00 The Brave

TUESDAY
8:00 The Voice Clip Show
9:00 This is Us (Halloween episode)

9:00 Dateline NBC
10:00 Saturday Night Live (Repeat)

SUNDAY
7:00 Football Night in America
8:30 Sunday Night Football: Oakland at Miami

FOX
FOX will definitely get a Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday night with the series currently tied 2-2. If the Dodgers and Astros split the next two games, they will get a Game 7 on Wednesday as well. If not, Empire and Star will return. Either way, getting to preempt the low rated Tuesday lineup for a second week is not a bad situation for FOX.

MONDAY
8:00 Lucifer
9:00 The Gifted

TUESDAY
8:00 MLB World Series Game 6

WEDNESDAY
8:00 MLB World Series Game 7

or

8:00 Empire

CW
The CW has their regular lineup across the board. Nothing too exciting to see here!

TV NEWS & THOUGHTS
- CBS has cancelled Zoo after three summer seasons. This comes as no surprise as the show was never a hit and it trended downward over the three summers it aired (1.1 demo average in 2015, 0.7 in 2016, 0.5 in 2017).

- ABC has handed a series order to The Rookie, which will bring Castle's Nathan Fillion as an older man who moves to Los Angeles to fulfill his dream of being an LAPD cop, despite being surrounded by much younger peers. Fillion is a popular ABC brand and the show in general seems on brand for ABC.

- ABC has basically cancelled Ten Days in the Valley as the show will be yanked off Sundays effective immediately. It will return in December on Saturday nights where it will air its final four episodes. Considering it was a limited series anyway with minuscule ratings, its future was never really a question, but ABC is not even going to let it air out the string on Sundays.

EPISODE GUIDES: That 70s Show Season Seven

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Seven of  That 70s Show ! THAT 70s SHOW: SEASON SEVEN 2004-2005 25 episodes The seventh season of  That 70s Show  is the final season with Topher Grace as a series regular and also the final full season for Ashton Kutcher. Despite still having both of those cast member, the show finds itself flailing especially with Topher Grace's Eric, who is stuck in a terrible arc for most of the season. The show also brings many characters back at one point or another but everything just feels tired. This season actually graded out the worst for me. Even worse than the often maligned final season (more on that next week). Every title this season is named for a Rolling Stones song. Starring Topher Grace as Eric Forman  (25 episodes) Mila Kunis as Jackie Burkhart  (25 episodes) Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso  (25 episodes) Danny Masterson as Steven Hyde  (25 e...

EPISODE GUIDES: Rhoda Season Five

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Five (the final season) of  Rhoda ! RHODA: SEASON FIVE 1978 13 episodes Rhoda' s final season was a truncated one as the show was cancelled in December 1978 after only 13 episodes had been produced (and only nine had aired). This feels like a continuation from season four in many ways except with the ill-advised split between Ida and Martin (more on that below). While  Rhoda  has an occasional good moment and even a couple decent episodes, it is a show that seems so wildly different from season one and not in a good way.  Rhoda  could never figure out what it fully wanted to be and only made it four and a half seasons as a result. Starring Valerie Harper as Rhoda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Julie Kavner as Brenda Morgenstern  (13 episodes) Ray Buktenica as Benny Goodwin  (11 episodes) Kenneth McMillan as Jack Doyle  (9 episodes) Nancy Wa...

SCHEDULES OF THE PAST: 1995-1996 Thursdays

On Tuesdays, I take a look at schedules from yesteryear. Here's a look at Thursdays in the 1995-96 season! ABC 8:00 8:30 9:00 10:00 Sep Charlie Grace The Monroes Various Programs Oct Murder One Nov Various Programs Dec Various Programs Thursday Night Movie Jan Feb World’s Funniest Videos Before They Were Stars! Mar Apr May NBC was the powerhouse on Thursday nights but ABC still gave it the old college try in the Fall of 1995 with a trio of new dramas that they hoped would help them cut into the Peacock's dominance. Headlining their night was Murder One , a high profile new show from Steven Bochco that received much of the network's attention before the season started. The series focused on one murder case for an entire season, whi...
