And the Winner Is...
MURRAY BARTLETT
The White Lotus (HBO)
I almost considered moving Murray Bartlett to the lead category but I decided to stick with the Emmy categorizations for The White Lotus stars - keeping them all as supporting. Whether lead or supporting, Murray Bartlett was a breakout performer as Armond in the wonderful summer series. Armond seemingly had it all together at the beginning of the series and unraveled in a pretty huge way over the course of the six episodes. It was fascinating to watch Bartlett lose control and he made it happen with his lines, his eyes, his smile, his facial expressions and so much more. His character was sort of the tragic figurehead for what happened to the employees over the course of the season and yet he also went down in a blaze of glory. I wasn't familiar with Bartlett before this show and now I look forward to seeing him in many more shows.

Thoughts on the Rest of the Nominees:
Two of Bartlett's White Lotus co-stars also made the list of nominations. His biggest threat was Jake Lacy who perfected the art of playing the very irritating role of the worst kind of privileged white guy, but he did it with such precision and believability. Steve Zahn was a bit of an unheralded member of the ensemble but he also delivered a great performance. Among non-White Lotus cast members, Nick Frost was very funny with a darkly comedic performance in the darkly comedic Why Women Kill. Dan Stevens and Seth Rogen both played characters that were hard to root for in Gaslit and Pam & Tommy respectively and yet they were both really fun to watch. Finally, Nick Robinson gave an understated but very strong performance in Maid and managed to effectively being somewhat of a monster without ever actually seeming like one.

Tomorrow: Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series!
