TOP 10 TUESDAY: Top 10 TV Houses

Tuesdays are Top 10 Tuesdays where I count down a topic in the TV realm. This week is Top 10 TV Houses!

Close Calls
The Ricardo Connecticut House - I Love Lucy
The Petrie House - The Dick Van Dyke Show
The Dunphy House - Modern Family

10. The Addams House - The Addams Family
Of the two "creepy" houses, I think The Addams Family had a better house than The Munsters. It was more regal complete with an indoor garden and a super creepy play room. The Munster house might seem more haunted but this one is more spectacular.

9. Lorelai Gilmore's House - Gilmore Girls
It was a real thrill to see the exterior of Lorelai Gilmore's house when I was on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Burbank a couple years ago. It has a big beautiful porch and feels very lived in inside. Although the house itself is on a California lot, it has a New England charm.

8. The Forman House - That 70s Show
The Forman House wasn't a glamorous one but it was 70s decor in all its glory and had, of course, an iconic basement. I'm sure many who lived in the 70s and watched the show felt like the living room was a living room they've been in.

7. The Huxtable House - The Cosby Show
The charming and upscale Brooklyn Heights house on The Cosby Show was fitting for the class of the show. Especially notable was the big kitchen with some many entrances to it. Yes, I know, I know, it's tough to talk about any Cosby Show related thing now but that was a great house.

6. Jeannie's Bottle - I Dream of Jeannie
Obviously this is the smallest house on the list. Jeannie's bottle was of course quite iconic with its lavish colors. She put a lot of personality into her little bottle and I always found it fun as a kid to think about the actors actually being on the full size set of the bottle.

5. The Cunningham House - Happy Days
The Cunninghams' Milwaukee house had two very different looks when the show switched from single camera to multi-camera. In both incarnations though it was a very cozy 50s family home with a nice open space that was fitting for the broad sitcom and lots of places for characters to enter to thunderous (or obnoxious) applause.

4. The Soprano House - The Sopranos
Tony Soprano's grand New Jersey house was such an interesting one. On the outside it was this beautiful house that a perfect and wealthy family could live in. But inside was a very tenuous situation between Tony's mob job and a very troubled marriage. The swimming pool in the backyard was also the site of so many memorable moments - both fun and tense.

3. The Stephens House - Bewitched
The enchanting home of Darrin and Samantha had an exterior that has been used on many shows (most recently and intentionally, WandaVision). The interior was a great family home that sometimes featured floating furniture or a grand piano on the stairs. But it was also quite elegant and charming even without the magic.

2. The Braverman House - Parenthood
The grand family house on Parenthood was quite impressive and one I'm quite envious of. The interior was expertly decorated but it was the outside that really made it. With outdoor dining on a patio to accommodate the huge family, it was the site of so many major family moments.

1. The Brady House - The Brady Bunch
One of the most iconic homes in TV history, the Brady house never made sense in terms of layout when looking at the outside (and Mike is an architect!) but the inside was quite a groovy 70s setup. There's a lot of great spots in the house that has eight family members and Alice and just one bathroom but the most iconic to me are the open stairs and the astroturf lawn. And of course the Brady house is never far from our pop culture as the Brady kids recently fixed up the actual location for a popular HGTV show.

Tomorrow: A One Season Wonder look at The Famous Adventures of Mr. Magoo!

SEASON IN REVIEW: 2017-18 Miscellaneous Awards

As usual, I am ending the season with a few miscellaneous awards. The blog will be quiet this summer but I will continue to do the week ahead posts with broadcast TV news as it happens this summer. Then I'll be back for previews, pilot reviews, and more in the fall! BEST RETURNING COMEDY Superstore (NBC) - Superstore was awarded my "Best Returning Comedy" last year, but it only got better in season three. The funniest ensemble on TV took another step forward with some truly hilarious moments (the season premiere, the Golden Globes party, and the Christmas episode to name a few) and some major plot points moving forward. It also has the potential to be surprisingly sentimental at times. I think back to the first year of the show and how I felt like it had so many funny elements but didn't always bring it completely together. Well now it does on a weekly basis and it is one of those shows that just seems to be in the sweet spot of what will hopefully be a long run. ...

EPISODE GUIDES: Happy Days Season Five (Part 1)

On Thursdays, I take a detailed and critical look at a TV show by season. Today I am looking at Season 5 (Part 1) of  Happy Days ! HAPPY DAYS: SEASON FIVE 1977-1978 27 episodes Season Five is the year where Fonzie infamously jumps the shark. It happens at the beginning of the season and while  Happy Days  does eventually decline in quality, it is not this season. In fact, this season graded out slightly higher than the previous season even though it doesn't feel as strong. I think that's because there's not a lot of outright stinkers in this season. It's a very solid season with the show continuing to hum along. There are some signs of the troubles to come but it doesn't happen on a regular basis in the fifth season. Starring Ron Howard as Richie Cunningham  (27 episodes) Henry Winkler as Arthur Fonzarelli  (27 episodes) Tom Bosley as Howard Cunningham  (27 episodes) Marion Ross as Marion Cunningham  (27 episodes) Anson Williams as Potsie Webber  ...

EPISODE GUIDES: That 70s Show Season Seven

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Seven of  That 70s Show ! THAT 70s SHOW: SEASON SEVEN 2004-2005 25 episodes The seventh season of  That 70s Show  is the final season with Topher Grace as a series regular and also the final full season for Ashton Kutcher. Despite still having both of those cast member, the show finds itself flailing especially with Topher Grace's Eric, who is stuck in a terrible arc for most of the season. The show also brings many characters back at one point or another but everything just feels tired. This season actually graded out the worst for me. Even worse than the often maligned final season (more on that next week). Every title this season is named for a Rolling Stones song. Starring Topher Grace as Eric Forman  (25 episodes) Mila Kunis as Jackie Burkhart  (25 episodes) Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso  (25 episodes) Danny Masterson as Steven Hyde  (25 e...
