BENJAMONSTER AWARDS: Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited/Anthology Series

Today's award is Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited/Anthology Series!

The nominees are:

ROSE BYRNE as Gloria Steinem in Mrs. America (FX on Hulu)

TONI COLLETTE as Detective Grace Rasmussen in Unbelievable (Netflix)

MARGO MARTINDALE as Bella Abzug in Mrs. America (FX on Hulu)

SARAH PAULSON as Alice Macray in Mrs. America (FX on Hulu)

MEGAN STOTT as Izzy Richardson in Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu)

LEXI UNDERWOOD as Pearl Warren in Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu)

And the Winner Is...
LEXI UNDERWOOD
Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu)
This was a very tough category with a ton of huge names in it but my award goes to someone who was pretty much an unknown before her breakout role in Little Fires Everywhere. As Pearl Warren, the daughter of Kerry Washington's character, Pearl was at the center of a lot of the stories in the limited series as she straddled the line between wanting a different life while staying loyal to her mother. Underwood navigated some very tricky scenes and showed tremendous depth and believability. She had great on screen chemistry with Kerry Washington but also had an interesting relationship with Reese Witherspoon. I'm pretty surprised that she is not being discussed in the Emmy conversation much because I really felt like she was the standout of this series. I look forward to seeing what she does next.

Thoughts on the Rest of the Nominees:
This category is stacked thanks in large part to Mrs. America (on top of the three nominees from that show, Tracey Ullman and Uzo Aduba were deserving of nominations too). The three who did get in were all stellar. Rose Byrne did a near perfect imitation of Gloria Steinem and was the perfect foil for Cate Blanchett's character. Margo Martindale is fantastic in everything she does and brought a lot of gusto to her portrayal of Bella Abzug. Sarah Paulson was one of the few characters who was not a real life figure but she had a tremendous episode in "Houston" and her character went through the most change in the series. Lexi Underwood's Little Fires Everywhere co-star Megan Stott also had some tremendous moments as the troubled and misunderstood Izzy. Finally, Toni Collette was excellent in what sometimes seemed like a lead role on Unbelieveable and had great on screen chemistry with Merritt Wever.

Tomorrow: Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series!
