On Wednesday night, it was a mixed bag as some shows were up but a lot couldn't get back to normalcy after weeks of interruptions from the presidential election and the World Series. The best recovery belonged to The Goldbergs, which was up four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for its best demo since the season premiere. At 8:30pm, Speechless was down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 9pm, Modern Family was down two tenths in viewers and even in the demo. The worst drop of the ABC lineup belonged to Black-ish, which was down four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. At 10pm, Designated Survivor was down four tenths in viewers and even in the demo. We'll see if it can recover next week when it finally gets to air multiple weeks in a row. Over on the CW, Arrow was up four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo while Frequency was up two tenths in viewers and even in the demo. It was its fifth straight week at a 0.3 demo.

FOX had another solid night from Lethal Weapon, which was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. Empire aired for the first time since October 12. It still topped the night but it dropped 1.1 million viewers and a rough six tenths in the demo to a new series low. This was a very troubling drop but the time off may have played a factor. We'll see how it goes next week. On CBS, Survivor was up 1.9 million viewers and three tenths in the demo from last week's episode, which aired against the World Series. At 9pm, Criminal Minds crashed from its last airing two weeks ago, falling three tenths in viewers and four tenths in the demo to a new series low. Code Black was up 1.5 million viewers and two tenths in the demo, but last week was against the World Series. This was still its lowest rating yet on a normal night. Finally on NBC, Blindspot was down three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo for a series low. This show started the season OK but seems to be losing steam. At 9pm, Law & Order: SVU was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. Chicago PD was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo.

WINNER OF THE NIGHT: The Goldbergs (ABC)
LOSER OF THE NIGHT: Empire (FOX)
