On Monday night, the CW's big four show crossover kicked off with Supergirl surging nine tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. The viewer total was a new high for its CW run while the demo tied the season premiere for its best CW performance. At 9pm, Jane the Virgin was up two tenths in viewers and even in the demo. FOX had fall finales of their dramas. Gotham was even in viewers and down a tenth in the demo while Lucifer was up half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo. On ABC, the CMA Country Christmas special was pretty quiet while Conviction was down seven tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. It will head to Sundays in January to finish out its run while Quantico gets a try airing out of The Bachelor. Finally on CBS, only The Odd Couple was new and it was even in viewers and down a tenth in the demo. CBS announced this week it will not air more than the 13 episodes ordered for its third season. While not an official death sentence, it's a bad sign. Finally on NBC, The Voice was up two tenths in viewers and even in the demo while Timeless was up a tenth in viewers but down a tenth in the demo to tie a series low.
WINNER OF THE NIGHT: Supergirl (CW)
LOSER OF THE NIGHT: Timeless (NBC)

On Sunday night, CBS had the NFL overrun for a second straight week and it went until 7:49pm on the east coast. 60 Minutes was up 2.4 million viewers and two tenths in the demo. NCIS: Los Angeles was up a million viewers and even in the demo. Madam Secretary was up half a million viewers and even in the demo. Elementary was even with last week. On NBC, an overtime Broncos-Chiefs game was on par with last week's game. Finally on ABC, Once Upon a Time was down a tenth in viewers but up a tenth in the demo. Secrets and Lies was down four tenths in viewers and even in the demo. Quantico closed out the night down half a million viewers and even in the demo. It will move to Mondays in January but it's probably too late for this show even though it will get The Bachelor as a lead-in. This should have happened a year ago when Quantico still had some buzz.

On Tuesday night, it was the finale for the fall edition of Dancing with the Stars, but it didn't see its usual spike as it only equaled Monday's 1.8 demo rating. Last year, the finale got a 2.4 so this is a big year to year drop even though the overall season wasn't down a lot. Earlier in the night, The Middle was up seven tenths in viewers and even in the demo while American Housewife was up eight tenths in viewers but down a tenth in the demo. On CBS, NCIS was up two tenths in viewers and the demo for its best performance since October 4. Bull was down a million viewers and even in the demo while NCIS: New Orleans was down seven tenths in viewers and even in the demo. It appears that Dancing with the Stars took some of the total viewers away from the CBS show.
On NBC, The Voice is looking weaker with each passing week. It was down three tenths in viewers and a rough three tenths in the demo. This is Us remained Tuesday's top show in the demo but was down half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo. At 10pm, Chicago Fire was down half a million viewers and even in the demo. On FOX, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was even with last week. New Girl was down a tenth in viewers and two tenths in the demo to tie a series low. Scream Queens really shouldn't be airing anymore, even by FOX standards. It was down two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo to a pitiful 0.5 demo. Finally on the CW, The Flash was even in viewers and down a tenth in the demo while No Tomorrow was even.

On Sunday night, it was back to CBS having the NFL overrun and it went even past the 7:30pm cushion CBS has established. It also didn't help the lineup as much because last week's 60 Minutes was so huge. 60 Minutes started at 7:46pm but was down 5.1 million viewers and eight tenths in the demo from last week's Trump interview edition. At 8:46pm, NCIS: Los Angeles was down 1.7 million viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 9:46pm, Madam Secretary was down eight tenths in viewers and even in the demo while Elementary finished things off down half a million viewers and even in the demo. On ABC, America's Funniest Home Videos rose nicely from last week as it was up two million viewers and three tenths in the demo. The horrible drama lineup took a week off for the American Music Awards but the long running awards show hit its lowest result ever. Of course, it's still a massive improvement over the regular lineup. NBC had a Packers-Redskins game that was down a lot from last week's big Seahawks-Patriots game. Finally, it was FOX without the NFL overrun so they went back down. Notably though, a special airing of Bob's Burgers at 8:30pm did better than Son of Zorn on non-NFL Sundays.

WINNER OF THE NIGHT: Bob's Burgers (FOX)
LOSER OF THE NIGHT: Elementary (CBS)

Thursday night had NBC with their first go-round of Thursday Night Football but the Panthers-Saints game wasn't too intriguing and it was below most CBS Thursday games. On ABC, fall finales allowed Grey's Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder to jump. Grey's Anatomy was up seven tenths in viewers and a nice three tenths in the demo while Murder was up seven tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for its best performance since the season premiere. In between the two of them was Notorious, which was up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. Notorious will keep airing in December to finish its run but Grey's and Scandal won't be back until January, when they return with Scandal. On FOX, Rosewood was down two tenths in viewers and even in the demo while Pitch was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo.
On CBS, The Big Bang Theory was down two tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo. I'm not sure why last week surged three tenths only for this week to drop back again. At 8:30pm, The Great Indoors was down four tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo. A 1.4 demo is pretty unimpressive for a show following Big Bang. At 9pm, Mom was up half a million viewers and down a tenth in the demo. Life in Pieces continued to be a pleasant surprise as it was up half a million viewers and even in the demo. It's interesting how much better a 1.4 demo looks at 9:30pm than 8:30pm. At 10pm, Pure Genius was up a tenth in viewers and even in the demo. Finally on the CW, DC's Legends of Tomorrow was up a tenth in viewers and even in the demo while Supernatural was up a tenth in viewers and the demo.

On Wednesday night, NBC started things off with Blindspot, which was up a tenth in viewers and the demo. Two hours of Chicago PD followed and was up four tenths in viewers and down a tenth in the demo for a series low. It grew in its regular 10pm slot so it appears that where it belongs. On FOX, Lethal Weapon was down four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo but Empire recovered some from last week's low, rising two tenths in viewers and the demo, which got it back above a 3.0 demo. On the CW, Arrow was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo while Frequency was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo for a sixth straight week.
On ABC, The Goldbergs was even in viewers and down a tenth in the demo while Speechless was up a tenth in viewers and even in the demo. At 9pm, Modern Family was up a tenth in viewers and down a tenth in the demo. Black-ish followed and was up three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. At 10pm, Designated Survivor was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo. It was around a 1.6 then crashed to 1.2 but has been there for three episodes and still has not gotten anything in-between. Finally on CBS, Survivor was down three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 9pm, Criminal Minds was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo from last week's series low. Code Black finished off the night down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. It got an order for three more episodes but that was probably mostly for scheduling purposes.

One week after Election Night preempted everything, most Tuesday shows were up from their last airings two weeks ago. The entire ABC comedy lineup was up by at least a tenth in the demo. At 8pm, The Middle was up eight tenths in viewers and a nice two tenths in the demo for its best performance since the season premiere. This is closer to what ABC was probably hoping for from this show on Tuesdays. American Housewife had the smallest rise, but it was still up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. It did not build on The Middle but it still tied it in the demo and is a perfect fit. At 9pm, Fresh Off the Boat was up eight tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo while The Real O'Neals was up nine tenths in viewers and a good three tenths in the demo. A David Blaine special at 10pm was a significant improvement on the usual Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. numbers. CBS was steady for the most part and not up like the other networks. NCIS was up six tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 9pm, Bull was up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. NCIS: New Orleans closed out the night down four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. It was the only show on any network to drop from its last airing.
On NBC, The Voice was up four tenths in viewers and even in the demo with its last regular Tuesday airing. At 9pm, This is Us had another fantastic week, rising a million viewers and three tenths in the demo. Interruptions in the weekly airings aren't hurting the biggest new hit of the season. At 10pm, Chicago Fire was up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. The CW saw a nice rise for The Flash, which was up two tenths in viewers and a big four tenths in the demo for its best performance since the season premiere. No Tomorrow couldn't benefit as it was just even. The CW announced today that both No Tomorrow and Frequency would not get back orders though they are not officially cancelled. Finally, FOX aired its regular lineup for the first time in nearly a month due to the World Series and the election. Brooklyn Nine-Nine was up a tenth in viewers and even in the demo, New Girl was up a tenth in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 9pm, Scream Queens was even at a very weak 0.6 demo.

The first fully normal week in awhile started with a lot of shows up slightly on most networks but CBS dropping some. On CBS, Kevin Can Wait started the night well again, though it was down three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 8:30pm, Man with a Plan was down a tenth in viewers and the demo for another so-so week. 2 Broke Girls was down two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo to tie its series low set on Halloween. Girls always seems to do great as a utility player but disappoints when it's in an anchor slot. At 9:30pm, The Odd Couple was down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 10pm, Scorpion was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo.
On ABC, Dancing with the Stars was up half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo while Conviction was up six tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo from last week's series low. On NBC, The Voice was even with last week. Timeless returned after a week off and was down seven tenths in viewers and up a tenth in the demo. It was way below the SNL special from last week. It is getting a decent DVR boost but this really isn't cutting it for a post-Voice slot. On FOX, Gotham was up a tenth in viewers and even in the demo while Lucifer was up four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo for its best performance since October 17. Finally on the CW, Supergirl was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo while Jane the Virgin was down two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo for a season low. CW announced its spring schedule today and this night will stay as is.

Sunday night was a good night for football with FOX dominating in an NFL overrun for a big Cowboys-Steelers game. On NBC, a Patriots-Seahawks matchup delivered the best ratings for NBC since the opening weekend. Maybe there was something to the election taking away from football ratings, we'll see if it stands. Later in the night on FOX, The Simpsons felt the direct benefits of football and was up four million viewers and 1.7 demo points for its best performance of the season, even better than the 600th/Treehouse of Horror episode a few weeks back. At 8:30pm, Son of Zorn was up 1.5 million viewers and seven tenths in the demo. This is the best performance since October 2 but retention out of The Simpsons was still a problem. It will be preempted for a second Bob's Burgers next week. At 9pm, Family Guy was up a million viewers and four tenths in the demo and the bounce even extended a bit to The Last Man on Earth, which was up half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo.
On CBS, a much publicized first interview with newly President-Elect Trump delivered dominating ratings for 60 Minutes with 20 million viewers and a 3.4 demo. This was easily a season high for 60 Minutes but it came nowhere close to the first sit-down with President Obama shortly after his election in November 2008. It also propelled NCIS: Los Angeles to a new season high in total viewers. It was 1.8 million viewers and two tenths in the demo. At 9pm, Madam Secretary was up 1.1 million viewers and even in the demo while Elementary was up eight tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. Finally on ABC, America's Funniest Home Videos took a hit from football and 60 Minutes as it dropped 1.3 million viewers and two tenths in the demo. Once Upon a Time was down two tenths in viewers and the demo to tie a series low. However, the following two dramas have ever so slight rises. Both were up a tenth in the demo. In total viewers, Secrets and Lies was up four tenths and Quantico was up six tenths.

FULL SEASON ALERT: Man with a Plan, The Great Indoors
CBS handed out full seasons today to Man with a Plan and The Great Indoors. The two comedies didn't premiere until late October so a full season for them is 19 episodes. They have been OK but not great in 8:30pm slots. The Great Indoors has had OK total numbers but poor retention out of The Big Bang Theory while Man with a Plan has had lower numbers but is a decent fit out of it lead-in Kevin Can Wait. CBS also announced that Code Black got an order for three more episodes. Still waiting on its fate is Pure Genius (extra episodes seem unlikely) and The Odd Couple (more likely).

Thursday night had fall finales for the NBC lineup as NBC will now bring the second half of the Thursday Night Football season starting next week. They all left in decent shape with rises from last week. Two episodes of Superstore were both up from last week while the 8:30pm episode built on the 8pm episode. At 9pm, Chicago Med was down a tenth in viewers but up a tenth in the demo while The Blacklist was up four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. These shows will be back in January. CBS was also on the upswing with all four comedies. The best jump came from The Big Bang Theory, which was up three tenths in viewers and the demo. Week three of The Great Indoors was down four tenths in viewers and up a tenth in the demo. It was up but it was only at 50% retention out of Big Bang. At 9pm, Mom was up two tenths in viewers and the demo while Life in Pieces was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 10pm, Pure Genius was the only show not to rise as it was dead even with last week.
On ABC, Grey's Anatomy had a surprising drop despite the end of Daylight Savings. It was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo to tie its series low set back in April 2015. At 9pm, Notorious was up two tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 10pm, How to Get Away with Murder was up two tenths in viewers and even in the demo. It was a miserable night for FOX. Rosewood was down a tenth in viewers and the demo at 8pm. At 9pm, Pitch crashed a tenth in viewers and two tenths in the demo to a new series low. If it still had a glimmer of a chance, I think that's done now. Dan Fogelman still has the huge hit This is Us on NBC but his other drama seems very unlikely to go beyond its initial order. Finally on the CW, DC's Legends of Tomorrow was even with last week while Supernatural was down a tenth in viewers and the demo.

On Wednesday night, it was a mixed bag as some shows were up but a lot couldn't get back to normalcy after weeks of interruptions from the presidential election and the World Series. The best recovery belonged to The Goldbergs, which was up four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for its best demo since the season premiere. At 8:30pm, Speechless was down three tenths in viewers and even in the demo. At 9pm, Modern Family was down two tenths in viewers and even in the demo. The worst drop of the ABC lineup belonged to Black-ish, which was down four tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. At 10pm, Designated Survivor was down four tenths in viewers and even in the demo. We'll see if it can recover next week when it finally gets to air multiple weeks in a row. Over on the CW, Arrow was up four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo while Frequency was up two tenths in viewers and even in the demo. It was its fifth straight week at a 0.3 demo.
FOX had another solid night from Lethal Weapon, which was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. Empire aired for the first time since October 12. It still topped the night but it dropped 1.1 million viewers and a rough six tenths in the demo to a new series low. This was a very troubling drop but the time off may have played a factor. We'll see how it goes next week. On CBS, Survivor was up 1.9 million viewers and three tenths in the demo from last week's episode, which aired against the World Series. At 9pm, Criminal Minds crashed from its last airing two weeks ago, falling three tenths in viewers and four tenths in the demo to a new series low. Code Black was up 1.5 million viewers and two tenths in the demo, but last week was against the World Series. This was still its lowest rating yet on a normal night. Finally on NBC, Blindspot was down three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo for a series low. This show started the season OK but seems to be losing steam. At 9pm, Law & Order: SVU was down three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo. Chicago PD was down a tenth in viewers and even in the demo.

QUICK HITS: Midseason Schedule Suggestion for CBS
After a long wait, here are my midseason CBS thoughts!
MONDAYS
8:00 Kevin Can Wait
8:30 Man with a Plan
9:00 2 Broke Girls
9:30 The Odd Couple/The Great Indoors
10:00 Scorpion
Mondays are not going great but I wouldn't make too much of a change. I would let the Monday 8pm family comedies stay for the year because Kevin Can Wait definitely deserves it and Man with a Plan might hang on enough. The only change I would make is eventually ending The Odd Couple before a full season and bringing over The Great Indoors, which is underwhelming on Thursdays.

TUESDAYS
8:00 NCIS
9:00 Bull
10:00 NCIS: New Orleans
I would leave Tuesdays alone. They are working pretty well for CBS.

WEDNESDAYS
(Jan-early Feb)
8:00 Undercover Boss
9:00 Criminal Minds
10:00 Code Black
(late Feb-May)
8:00 Survivor
9:00 Doubt
10:00 Criminal Minds
I would let Undercover Boss be the bridge show between Survivor seasons because its old Friday and Sunday slots both have more stable shows. I would also let Code Black air through to February. Then in February, I would try the new Doubt at 9pm before Empire comes back and let the declining Criminal Minds finally make the move to 10pm.

THURSDAYS
8:00 The Big Bang Theory
8:30 Superior Donuts
9:00 Mom
9:30 Life in Pieces
10:00 Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders
I think Pure Genius needs to be cancelled and The Great Indoors can go on hiatus before resurfacing on Mondays. In early January, which is always a good time of year for CBS, I would launch Superior Donuts, which seems like it has potential, behind Big Bang. And I would return Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders to the lineup at 10pm.

FRIDAYS
8:00 (Jan) MacGyver/(Apr) Training Day
9:00 Hawaii Five-0
10:00 Blue Bloods
I would mostly leave Fridays alone but let MacGyver have a near uninterrupted run so that it gets off the air with a few weeks to spare and a late spring premiere for Training Day.

SUNDAYS
7:00 60 Minutes
8:00 NCIS: Los Angeles
9:00 Madam Secretary
10:00 Elementary
I guess I would leave Sundays alone. They'll be a mess in the spring at least from 9-11pm and Doubt seems like it could fit here, but why subject a new show to the night? If they want to make a change, do it in the fall when they have football.

On Monday night, the end of Daylight Savings and it not being Halloween helped a lot of shows to rise from last week. Most dramatic was Kevin Can Wait on CBS, which surged a million viewers and four tenths in the demo. It may have benefited from guest star Adam Sandler but it also was probably the hardest hit by Halloween. At 8:30pm, Man with a Plan was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. It did rise but it didn't look like as much of a perfect match with Kevin, which was up much more. At 9pm, 2 Broke Girls was up four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo while The Odd Couple was up seven tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. At 10pm, Scorpion was up four tenths in viewers and even in the demo. On FOX, Gotham was up three tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo for a nice rebound while Lucifer was up a tenth in viewers and the demo.
NBC had a rebound of its own as The Voice was up half a million viewers and three tenths in the demo. Timeless was preempted for an SNL Election Special that, despite being a clip show, tapped into the timeliness of its airing time and delivered the best number for the hour since The Good Place's preview series premiere on the opening night of the season. On ABC, Dancing with the Stars was up four tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. Conviction was down 1.1 million viewers and a tenth in the demo to a new series low at a horrible 0.6. ABC announced that they won't order more episodes of Conviction. It's not an official cancellation but it's an unofficial one. This was supposed to be a procedural for them and procedurals are all about getting lots of episodes. This one is done. Finally on the CW, Supergirl was up three tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo while Jane the Virgin was up a tenth in viewers and even in the demo.
