As ABC makes its midseason plans, a second freshman show - the soap Nashville was given a full season. One of the most critically acclaimed new shows heading into the season, Nashville was the last of ABC's three dramas to premiere and the most anticipated. It premiered with a good but underwhelming 2.8 demo but then took a real troubling drop to a 2.0 in its second week. Since then, however, it has hovered right around that mark. Though critics haven't been as kind to subsequent episodes as the pilot, it does have a solid fan base and crossover appeal with original country songs that can be downloaded. This is no surprise as ABC was always very likely to give a full season to a show with this much buzz and pedigree.
With this move, Nashville joins The Neighbors on the full season list for ABC. The fate of the other new ABC dramas - Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue have not learned their fates but both are struggling in the ratings. I think ABC is more likely to give Last Resort a few more episodes. The last fall freshman for ABC - Malibu Country - has only aired two episodes but already received an additional script order.
